Hey fellas, could you let me know what you think?

I have a compaq presario V3019US laptop.
its about a year, year and a half old.
my touch pad crapped out on me about 3 or 4 months ago, so I have been using a USB mouse. It's called a Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad.

My touchpad has a vertical and horizontal scroll feature. I can also turn it off the touch pad with a button on top of it.

It stays in one spot on the screen, but can only hove vertical. and it moves on its own. I can remedy the situation temporarily, by going to mouse properties-device settings- and then either disable or reset devices.

But eventually, it will go back to moving up and down along a line on its own again. Its frustrating because its a relatively new computer.

Have any suggestions? Thanks for reading this guys!

Check your BIOS... you may have a feature in there that lets you disable your touchpad. If you don't have that option then go into your Device Manager in Windows and disable it there. My laptop has it disabled in the BIOS.. and it's not gonna come back until I says it can. :niterider

If you need help getting into your BIOS or Device manager let us know.. we'll get you there. :niterider

did you update the USB drivers, too?

my mouse at work does it sometimes and it's the USB connection that is muffed. i have to unplug and plug the thing back in to get it to work correctly.

oh, no, I dont believe the USB mouse has anything to do with it because this problem occurred before I bought the external USB mouse
