...what triggered your epiphany?
I know we chatted about it briefly once, but you never elaborated.
Was there one incident that broke the camel's back?
Or was it just a conglomeration of all the swill we've had to swallow over the past seven years?

9/11 Canisius. It shocked my worldview. It's pretty easy in our culture to dehumanize people when they are not one of "us". But when you realize that the gov't committed mass murder against it's own people to advance a policy agenda, it makes you stop and reflect on what exactly the hell were you advocating.
Then, watching video of mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters throw themselves 1,000+ feet out of a building lest they burn to death. They were "us". It became gutcheck time. What exactly do you believe in? Well, I found out. I also found out that I was being lied to on many different fronts. And that made me angry. So I recommitted to following a philosophy of greatest good, rather than ideology or ever letting someone tell me what to think. Not easy since I come from a hardcore Republican family. I needed to regain my humanity and stop thinking about me. In another circumstance that could have been a family member making the death leap.
9/11 was a bitter fruit. It helped me to see things in a better light, but I wish that it'd have happened a different way.
