Here it is, the first of the year. Subject to many changes as we learn more about these gents.
The FA acquisitions we make will of course affect our draft strategy. I think we can make an agressive opening in FA and secure the services of our targets. Our new ballers will be:
WR Bryant Johnston 6'3 215 Big target, this former 1st rounder is ready to blossom as the wingman to Lee Evans' Maverick.
CB Randall Gay 5'11 190 Discilplined CB who knows how to win and where to be.
C Casey Weigman 6'2 285 While he is 34, he is also an Ironman, not missing a game in the last 5 years. He will mold the young center drafted by the Bills.
LB/ST Ace Larry Izzo 5'10 228 I know he probably wouldn't leave NE, but it would be awesome to bring him in for LB depth, ST mastery, and to **** with the Pats.
Now on to the Draft:
1. Dan Connor LB PSU 6'3 233 4.67 Reunited with Poz at the Pro-level, Buffalo would have options for disguising LB intent. Poz or Connor can shift between MLB and SLB, keeping Offenses guessing. This also allows Crow to slide back to his natural WLB spot.
2. Martin Rucker TE Missouri 6'5 250 4.69 Rucker is the mismatch that can set the TE position on fire in this offense. He is improving as a blocker, and is comfortable in the cold.
3a. Dre Moore DT Maryland 6'4 305 5.04 Moore is the 1 gap stuffer that the interior D needs. He plays with a nasty streak and will be allowed to go all out as a part of the rotation without getting gassed. Moore, McCargo, Williams, Tripplett will be nice in waves.
3b. Jason Jones DE EMU 6'5 270 4.75 Has prototypical size combined with a serious work ethic and motor. All that, combined with his character and intangibles, will more than make fans forget about Anthony Hargrove. 37.5 TFL over the last 2 years, a school record, doesn't hurt either.
4. Pat Lee CB Auburn 6' 195 4.41 Big athletic corner to contribute to a defense getting more physical by the minute.
5a. Owen Schmitt FB WVU 6'3 260 4.85 This cat is a jack hammer. He is a work out freak who is perfectly content to blow people up as his RB is escorted through to the second level. He would quickly become a favorite son of Buffalo.
5b. Darnell Terrell CB Missouri 6'2 200 4.43 Strong and fast, Terrell can also provide depth at FS.
6. Fernando Velasco C Georgia 6'3 318 In the perfect situation, Velasco has the chance to learn from a vet like Weigmann for a couple years before this diamond in the rough becomes the captain of the O-Line.
7a. Steve Johnson WR Kentucky 6'2 200 4.49 Size and quicks may move him too far up the boards for Buffalo to have a shot here, but the SEC leader in TD grabs would be a welcome addition to the WR corps. He also caught the game winners against Louville and LSU.
7b. Anthony Morelli QB PSU 6'4 225 Another potential steal if he is still there in the 7th. Would have plenty of time get it together as the third QB.
There you have it. If this goes down in the coming months, then one helluva strong nucleus will be in place in Buffalo for a smash-mouth team that can score when necessary, and stop you cold too.
So what do y'all think?
