Derek Roy (shoulder) is hoping that he'll be able to return to the Buffalo Sabres lineup for Friday's match-up with the Atlanta Thrashers (7:30 p.m., MSG).

The Sabres share the same hopes as they look to break a 10-game winless streak against the Southeast Division leaders and would love nothing more than to get back a key piece of their offensive attack.

"We put him in a full-go situation," said head coach Lindy Ruff regarding Roy's participation in practice. "He's close to being able to return. We're hopeful that tomorrow comes along and he'll be able to play."

Roy's status will come down to a game-time decision, according to the center. One factore that won't be a negative in the decision-making process, conditioning.

Prior to rejoining practice yesterday, Roy participated in conditioning skates with assistant coach James Patrick on his own. The demanding workouts often involved pulling a parachute around the rink and has allowed him to maintain his conditioning level.

"Having an upper body injury helps because you can continue skating to keep your conditioning."

Buffalo has been without their highest scoring pivot for the past four games. Roy is tied with defenseman Brian Campbell for second on the team with 30 points (13+17) in 40 games.

"If I'm not ready to play, then I'm not helping the team out," Roy said. "Hopefully, tomorrow I'll feel good and ready to go."

Clarke MacArthur is recovering from the last second incident that removed him from Wednesday night's 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers but was held out of practice on Thursday. MacArthur was driven into the left post on an odd-man rush by a check from behind delivered by Brendan Shanahan.

"We'll see if he's able to play tomorrow or not," said Ruff. "We kept him out because he didn't even feel like he could practice."

'Bout time...now if they could get Timmy "The Glass" Connolly to stay healthy we might actually have 4 decent centers IN THE SAME GAME!! Amazing! In the same game!

another injury for this team in which we did nothing in retaliation, good ol buffalo!

The entire Sabres team deserves the lame Lady Bing trophy this year.
