I think if you can't see Campbell's value to this defense (set up to kotalik with ~9:00 mins remaining,) you're a jackass. Subtract Campbell, there's no other D-man on the team that can do that. Very very few in the entire league who can do that.

For less than $5 million, I would agree. But Campbell is going to get $6 million-plus on the market, and that's simply too much for a guy who's average in his own end and plays soft.

You and I usually agree on much of this stuff, but I have never been a fan of Larry Quinn.

Fair enough. Including the Quinn thing was probably dumb on my behalf because he's sort of an acquired taste. Even a lot of smart people don't like him.

Edit: I'm taking the Quinn part out, but I do think he catches far too much flak. This is a guy who introduced Golisano to hockey, convinced him to buy the team, and has put the Sabres on the map in terms of marketing since the lockout (Winter Classic, No. 1-selling jerseys, etc.)

As for the Vanek thing, I think that if we had someone else step up on this team and do some scoring, maybe it would help Vanek as he is pressing too hard.

Maybe a nice scoring streak by Vanek or some other of the so called "scorers" on this team will get us on a win streak and all of this crazy talk will be history.

Well, I might admit he's good at marketing, but that doesn't mean he should meddle in the personnel and salary decisions. That post July 1 press conference convinced me of his hand in the personnel cookie jar.

I'm telling you, his heart is not in it anymore and it reflects in their play. He needs to stop pouting about Drury and get on with it, there's still plenty of talent left on this team. His teams of the late-90's had less talent and still went to the Finals. Every game they played desperate. It's his job to get the most out his team and put them in positions to succeed. IT's not happening, period.

He's got younger alternatives that are similiar to him as of 2-3 seasons ago and they won't progress without the ice time. His cap number needs to be spent on a #1 Center/ future Captain.

It doesn't help that even the Amerk players are uncertain of their futures. There's a major lack of financial stability with all but 3 Sabres (Vanek, Roy and Hecht). Their skating for the name on the back instead of the logo on the front and that's because the logo doesn't pay the bills.
