And it'll be...
Progressive Field.
The deal, which last for 16 years, will see the Cleveland-based auto insurer pony up $3.6 million/year for the naming rights. And it ends the same year the Tribe's lease is up.
The deal makes sense,in that it's a local company.
But it will ALWAYS be The Jake to me.
ALWAYS.

I hate it. Even as a Yankee fan with no rooting interest in the Indians, this seems so wrong.
Jacobs Field > Progressive Field.

Naming it for a person is better than naming it for a corporation.
Even if,like Progressive,it's a local company.
The Tribe also considered National City and Key banks, but got nowhere with them.

Oh,one more thing...if you have DirecTV,I have good news. (And it has nothing to do with car insurance. :D)
You can now...FINALLY...see the Indians on your TV. DirecTV rejiggered what teams we get,and they are...
Yankees(YES)
Mets(SNY)
Indians(SportsTime Ohio)
Looks like the Pirates went bye bye...

So the teams in stadiums not named after a company are Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, HHH Metrodome (does anyone know the name of the Twins new park, but I am guessing it will have a company name), Shea Stadium (they move to Citi Field in 09) and Dolphin Stadium (they get booted in 2010).
Cleveland used to have the best names of sporting arenas, none were corp. names, but now the Gund is Quicken Loans arena and the Jake is this. It is a shame. I just hope whatever happens to the Bills it is always Ralph Wilson Stadium.

The Twins' new crib doesn't have a name. Yet.
By the way, wags have called CitiField :censor:tyField. And I highly doubt Yankee Stadium 2.0 will get a corporate name. If that happens, the Bronx will be burning.

And, from what I understand, they might even rename Wrigley...

As a Cubs fans, if this happens, it's nothing short of blasphemy. The guy who sold the rights and the corporation that bought the rights would be the most hated person/company in Chicago. The article also mentions that the Yankees' new stadium will not be renamed.
"The dollars we passed were incomparable," Lonn Trost, the Yankees' chief operating officer, told the New York Times in October. "Having said that, you wouldn't rename the White House, you wouldn't rename Grant's Tomb, and you wouldn't rename the Grand Canyon. This is Yankee Stadium, and this will always be Yankee Stadium."

I see you are also an Indians fan as am I. I am psyched they have finally added sportstime ohio in their entire viewing area. I don't understand why the Pirates went bye bye though. As far as I know we are still considered in the Pirates broadcast area, but I will trade off our Indians for the Pirates any day. And we also get quite a few Cubs and White Sox games on WGN. No more Braves though as their whole schedule is moving to either Turner South or Sportssouth, can't remember which one.

This would really suck. How much money do the Cubs really need? And the Tribune co. is selling the Cubs and Wrigley Field anyway.

It's SportSouth, which will share the Braves rights with WPCH-TV(that was formerly known as WTBS). SportSouth WAS Turner South.
Near as I can tell,DirecTV reworked who gets what teams. And,you're right-technically,we're still in the Pirates territory.

I forgot to add Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Kauffman Stadium, Angels Stadium, Turner Field, Nationls Park and Dodger Stadium to my list of parks that did not sell their naming rights.
So for the 2008 season twelve teams will not have sold the naming right to their stadium.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought Sportsouth and Turner South were different. Glad to have the Indians available finally.

If you subscribe to the sportspak through Directv you will still get the Pirate games on FSN Pittsburgh. I just went to the Directv website and Sportstime Ohio is now listed in Buffalo as in the Choice extra package. They also have the Pirates listed when you have the sportspak which since I have Premier I have. Pretty cool that we get 4 baseball teams in Buffalo,so if the Bisons end up with the Mets or Pirates at least we can still follow our players. Seriously if Directv ever got CBS HD on in Buffalo I would sign a lifetime commitment to them even though it still baffles me why we aren't considered in the Cavaliers broadcast area.
