Anyone like boxing? I like watching good fights.
Anyway, did you see Mayweather vs. Castillo last week? It was the worst decision I ever saw. Castillo kicked Mayweathers butt every round.
Boxing sucks unless there's a knockout.

Didn't see the fight, but I had to comment on the most excellent avatar!!

Speaking of boxing. Well I hope you saw the Arturo Gatti -Mickey Ward fight on HBO Saturday night. Absolutley as good as it gets in the sport. Just an incredible display of heart and courage and to be fair lack of defense by both guys. One for the ages!

I saw that fight Jersey, the HBO guys were calling it the fight of the century, that was as good as it gets. In two weeks $50 will get you the Tyson-Lewis match that will probably be the dud of the century, heavyweight fighters are over rated.
May 20th, 2002, 12:23:59 PM
Yep, really like the big fights, but I missed that fight, BFO. The last one I saw was Trinidad-Cherifi on HBO.
FrankieA, how can you say that heavyweight fighters are over-rated? What exactly do you mean?
I feel the opposite. These guys hit damn hard, and that what's cool about it. The little guys seem quicker but have no power. Roy Jones, Jr., "the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world," can't even knock his oponents out. Every time I see a Jones, Jr. fight it ends in a decision. What's cool about that?

Rude I just mean they get all the glory, it seems to me that you'll always get a better pure fight in the lower weight divisions then you would have in the upper weight. My bad, I should have stated it better, it is the fights in general that are over rated.

Decisions???????????????
Roy Jones Jr - 44-1 36 KO’s
The one loss was BS! He was DQ'd after his opponent took a dive. Jones hit the guy with a shot after the guy's knee hit the canvass.
Roy Jones is the most superior fighter around!!!!
I missed Gatti -Mickey. I'll have to watch the replay.
I agree that the heavyweights are not the best match-ups. They are not in the best shape. They may hit hard, but there is a lack of "boxing" at that level.
May 21st, 2002, 11:27:48 AM
BFO, my bad. It was an exageration, but it seems like it's always a tko or decision lately. But I think that was because he went up a weight category.
I'll take a Tyson or Lewis fight over a Spadafora or Trinidad fight any day. That's just me though. I like the bruisers.

But what I'm really liking these days is UFC. Pretty cool to me to see two guys square off for some (near) bare-knucklin'.
Barbaric, yes, but entertaining nonetheless.

I hear you Rude. Everyone has their preferences. Jones is about 175 lbs. Not exactly a little chump.
UFC was cool. Is it still around? The funny thing was that you would see these “martial arts experts” in their promo piece doing all sorts of crazy moves, just to get into the ring and get their butt kicked by some crazed street fighter.
The earlier ones were good. With Royce Gracie (sp???). He is the only one that would consistently win with technique. He wasn’t a big guy either.
May 21st, 2002, 11:38:09 AM
I think it was Hoyce. He was a pure grappler. sp? It's actually amazing how structured the fights are. It isn't just run around and throw punches. Many fights are won by submission.

I'm a big fan of David Tua I saw knock out his last opponent. I'm hoping he can get back on top and get another chance to fight for the belt
May 21st, 2002, 12:40:03 PM
I saw the Tua-Lewis fight a while ago and Tua was not getting anything in on Lewis. Lewis dominated the fight from the opening bell. Tua couldn't get inside Lewis's long reach.

Tua's an interesting fighter kind of like Tyson he goes for the big bombs and the kill. He can take a punch and has never been knocked down! I think Lewis is quite the mismatch for him because of the size and Lewis being a great technical fighter and unwilling to take risks.

I'd be happy to see anyone beat Mike Tyson. :) I don't like boxing though. Way to violent for me. I don't see the point of having two grown adults stand in a ring and beat the ***** outta each other. Seems dumb. Although, I am going to watch Chyna beat the hell out of Joey tomorrow night! He's another one who needs to have the living daylights beat out of him. I'm all for that! :D
I can't believe you watch boxing, BironsGirl. And you know the fighters? I'm impressed. :)

i missed the gatti - ward fight. i'm sure it was a great fight to watch as all the gatti fights are brawls. but the best fight i ever saw was approx. 15 yrs ago, hagler vs. hearns. it was on closed circuit in theatres in those days. the fight only last into the 3rd round, about eight min., when hagler knocked him out. those two were trading bombs, both firghters were almost out, as hearns had hagler on the edge also. they freakin killed each other for eight min. no dancing there. if you haven't seen it check it out if you can find it.

No I don't really watch much boxing either Jaded! I know some guys.. because some of my friends watch it and I have a satellite so they watch some fights over at my house.. lol.. but yeah I've seen some fights.. I don't really like it much or anything... But I do remember watching a fight with a guy named Andrew Golota (sp) and he's like the King of low blows.. he kept hitting guys below the belt... lol.. it was funny.. the dude was nuts.. hehehe.. but yeah I know some things about it... lol... I don't watch it religiously or anything.. I don't really care for it either.. but when everyone is over and cheering for people.. I just pick a guy and go like "Go you" lol.. and I know that Lennox Lewis was like raised in Canada so I thought that was cool.. but yeah.. that's my explanation.. lol.. probably not as impressive as you first thought eh? LOL!! :)

Jaded, there is no point. It's just entertainment. If those guys are willing to beat each other punch-drunk then I'm willing to watch. :D

If you think boxing is bad, Jaded.. you should see Ultimate fighting... OMG..... I can't even watch that!! These guys basically like KILL each other.. omg... *shudders* it's so damn stupid.. they pound each other... boxing is golden compared to that!!

I guess I just don't find beating someone up entertaining. I really don't like intentional violence, against animals or people.
BironsGirl - Just the fact that you actually sit down and watch boxing with your friends is impressive. lol Thank goodness I haven't met any guys who have asked me to watch a boxing match with them. I'm willing to watch most any sport but I'd never sit through boxing. And that ultimate fighting stuff, I've never even heard of that, other than on Friends that time. lol I have an extremely weak stomach and I can't handle looking at blood AT ALL! lol I am the LAST person you'd want around if there's been an accident. lol

Boxing is the most skilled sport in the world. It takes extreme preparation as well as physical and mental preperation. Do you understand what type of shape these guys have to be in. Try boxing for 1 round it is extremely tiring and tough. It is a great sport.

Awww thanks! Well I kinda have no choice any way.. I might as well root for someone and make the most of it.. lol! But yeah it's not that great... yeah the UFC is scary.. it's so ridiculous.. anyway blood doesn't make me sick or anything.. I think it's maybe because when I did candy-striping at a hospital.. I got use to that kind of thing.. and it just doesn't bug me.. hehe.. :)

Squash players are in the best physical shape. Seriously.

You're welcome. :) A few of my friends did the whole candy-striping thing but not me. lol Not only can't I stand the sight of blood, but hospitals make me nauseous. lol Really, if there is a medical emergency, I am the LAST person on a list of 100 people to call. lol
Player - I'm sure these guys are in top physical shape. You'd think if they were so put together physically and mentally they'd have the brains to find a better sport to participate in. lol I don't like boxing and nothing you say to me is going to make me think it's a good sport. And I'd NEVER get in a ring and hit anyone, regardless of what kind of shape I was in. I am NOT a violent person.

That's fine that you don't like the sport, but you have to respect the amount of skill and toughness it takes to be in this sport. I don't like golf I think it's boring but I respect what they do. That all doesn't mean you have to like the people in the sport.

Player, ALL hockey players like golf. What's with YOU, man?

If you say so, Player. Really, I think they all have to have a few screws loose to knowingly walk into a ring to get the hell beat outta them. lol I never really gave it much thought as to whether or not I respect them. I just think they're a bit dumb, IMHO.
Rude - I don't even know what squash is. :?:

Player do you check out any websites devoted to boxing I'm involved with 2 of them.
www.boxingfanatics.com
www.secondsouts.com
They both have boxing related forums as well as forums devoted to general topics. I spend much more time on the 1st one I listed than the latter. There are people on both of them from various countries talking about the sweet science.

Let me know if any of you guys decide to try to join the forums on either of those particular sites or just start reading there. I post under the title Boxerpuncher. Like I said largely on boxingfanatics.com but occasionally on secondsout.com which I don't like as much.
