...and possibly should be undefeated.

A story has come to light regarding the officials in the Illinois game. Now don't get me wrong, it was a great game... but there were some HUGE no-calls, and a blown call on the Illini's first TD that would have resulted in no TD and a turnover that could have changed the game dramatically..... I didn't bitch much at the time because it was a well played game by Illinois...and I'm not trying to take anything away from them.

CHICAGO -- The Big Ten Conference said Thursday that it will delve into a further background check on referee Stephen Pamon, a day after a Yahoo! Sports story came out which said Pamon has a history of bankruptcy, casino gambling, child abuse and allegations of sexual harassment.

The conference said it conducted its last background check on Pamon in 2005 and knew of "certain civil and criminal records for Pamon," according to a conference statement. "Upon further third-party review, the conference was satisfied that the financial and criminal issues had been resolved at that time."

The conference said that based on the article, "the conference office intends to follow up on the veracity and accuracy of the new information and will also provide an opportunity for Pamon to respond as required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act."

Pamon, a Big Ten official since 1988, filied for bankruptcy along with his wife in 2002, listing two casinos among the creditors, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Pamon also was charged with repeatedly beating three of his girlfriend's four sons with an electrical cord in 1997, was fired from the Chicago Police Department in 1995, reportedly after two female officers accused him of sexual harassment according to published reports, and was accused by a former wife of striking her and assaulting a 19-year-old niece, according to court records.

There is no evidence linking Pamon to gambling on games, Yahoo! Sports reported.

The Big Ten said Wednesday it has conducted background checks on officials since the beginning of the 2005-06 academic year. All football and men's and women's basketball officials "were checked by a third-party service for criminal and financial records prior to the 2005-06 seasons. In ensuing years, all new officials have received a background check with the intent of periodic checks thereafter."

Now I know there isn't any proof yet, but the guy has a history of gambling, and debt to gambling organizations... and there were some horrible calls, and no calls... And further, this isn't the first game this officiating crew had blown.

Where there is smoke, there is fire.

So you would have finished with 1 loss instead of the 2 you are going to end up with. Big deal.

You are still in the National Title game so it didn't affect you either way.

This is the stupidest arguement around man... your video shows pass interference. It was pass interference. they have since released a statement that it was pass intereference.

So it took the guy a second to get his flag out? Should he not make the call if its the right call?

The point is why are suspended officials with sordid pasts calling the game of the #1 team in the nation at home.

I'm pissed at the Big Ten.

Miami popped the champagne before that guy threw the flag.

Im as big a supporter of Refs that there is, but how does the BACK JUDGE make the call and not the guy that could have seen the play? Thats the suspicions part. There really isnt a good enough look to see whether it was holding or not, all Im going by is who threw the flag and who didnt. The guy with absolutely no view of the play threw the flag and the guy that saw everything didnt.

right on...i'm really so over arguing that call.

But the point of the thread is the big Ten needs to get its shit together, and it looks like they finally are.

The Miami call was BS, it was not PI an the flag was thrown 10 secs after the play was over. That has nothing to do w/ this discussion but it was a BS call that robbed UM of another National Title.

Not according to everything put out by the NCAA after the fact, but it doesn't matter... there were countless calls or noncalls that went the other way that should have iced that game in regulation....

The only people who don't think that call was BS ae OSU fans, every objective fan(and I couldn't have cared less who won that game) saw the call for what it was- BS that cost UM a Championship.

It was deemed the correct call by the NCAA...

And you have no problemn with the other horrible calls that would have ended the game in regulation?

That PI was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. And P I could care less if the NCAA (the most corrupt institution in sports) says it was the right call. Miami is the 2002 National Champion in my book. Complete highway robbery.
