ALBANY SUCKS!
http://wivb.images.worldnow.com/images/static/gfx/pxl_trans.gif(December 19, 2007) - - The new year will bring higher tolls for some drivers along the New York State Thruway.
The Thruway Authority signed off on a new budget, meaning that effective January 1st, drivers who pay cash will see a ten-percent toll increase. These increases were approved two years ago. This is different from another proposed hike which won't be voted on until the spring.
Do you think you're getting your money out of what you pay to travel on the thruway?
Nate Deveso, Town of Tonawanda, "No. I mean the roads are decent compared to some others. But when you spend all day driving and havng to pay, I find myself going around the thruway tolls."

That means the cost each way to drive to Buffalo from Ithaca will go from 3.65 to around 4.
Thanks Albany, thanks a lot.

You know when they built the thruway, the agreement was it could be a toll road until the thruway was paid for. Then the tolls would stop . . . the thruway had been paid for 5 time over (or something like that)

I've heard this several times now, and I wonder if it was in the actual bill passed to create Thruway. If it was, then why hasn't there been a lawsuit filed over it?

In 1997, the construction bond used to build the Thruway had been paid off, and all tolls along the Thruway were supposed to be abolished. However, the New York State Legislature voted to maintain the tolls. This action has engendered regional hostility within the state, particularly from the upstate counties which see the maintenance of the toll as a regional-based tax and that the tolls help maintain the economic disparity between the poor, rural upstate and the rich, urban downstate.
