In the wake of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul raking in more than $6 million in campaign contributions in a single day on Sunday, experts are predicting that his influence could extend well beyond a presidential primary campaign that he is likely to lose.
In an Internet fundraising event that was scheduled to coincide with the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, Paul reportedly brought in $6.04 million from 58,407 individual donors. With this take, Paul's campaign is now likely to raise more money in the fourth quarter of this year than any of the other Republican presidential campaigns.

Some experts believe the passionate network of supporters Paul has generated so far gives him the potential to be a significant factor in the 2008 presidential race and beyond, even if, as is likely, he fails to win his party's nomination.
NPR's Senior Strategist for Social Media Andy Carvin told Cybercast News Service that Ron Paul's database of supporters creates a tremendous reserve of potential influence.

>>>presidential primary campaign that he is likely to lose.
I wouldn't bet on that. He's already won.
Post primary is when things get really fun...when Ron Paul rides the INDEPENDENT giant's back all the way to the White House.

Do you really think he could be bought like that?
I personally don't believe that he would sell it to anybody.

Stop and Shop sold their customer list, why not Paul? Why would you think a political analyst would consider his database 'a tremendous reserve of political influence'?

I might be wrong but I don't believe his base is for sale.
The political analyst on the other hand might sell his soul to the highest bidder.

If the price for his support is support in return for something he holds dear or a promise for an influential position, he would sell. He is a non-neocon politician which means he understands the practical side of politics.

if a deal is made for a plank to the nominees platform I might understand the temptation.

He has said that he wasn't going to run as an independent if he lost the primary.

Dr Paul won't run as an independent. I don't think he should.
He should run as a Repub and take back that party, or spend his time and money working towards the establishment of a 3rd party. Making the (premature) assumption that he does not win the nomination, it would be a horrible shame if the groundswell of support that his candidacy has garnered so far is left to wilt on the vine.
It's true that there are tons of folks who consider themselves left AND right are joining the movement lead by Dr Paul. But I don't think it's really just him. He's not THAT charismatic. It's the ideas that are leading the way, and a very interesting emergent behavior is appearing - my real hopes are that in 10-15 years we'll be able to point at this time as the time when idealistic dreams of liberty reawakened in the US, and that we're in a better place because of it.
So yeah - he has post-primary clout one way or the other. My sincere hope is that is keeps growing, whether or not Dr Paul is at the head of the line.
