I was shocked by the outcome. It came from Triple H going for the Pedigree and Jeff reversing it to a pin and he got the win.
At first Jeff didn't want to fight him so Triple H kept telling him to bring it and fight him. Finally Jeff slapped him and Triple H smiled back at him. The match was pretty good and I"m just shocked that Triple Ego H actually let someone beat him for a #1 contender spot.

Just keep in mind, the Rumble isn't here yet... That #1 contender spot can always be risked (and lost by Hardy) before then.
I'd be very shocked if HHH was not in a title match come WrestleMania, and I wouldn't be surprised if he snags a title match at the Rumble somehow.

I could see :
1. A triple threat match at the Rumble
2. The Title match being a Ladder match and Hardy winning setting up Hardy/HHH at WrestleMania
2. HHH helping Hardy win the title at the Rumble setting up a triple threat at WrestleMania

Looks like HHH will win the Royal Rumble, setting up a Wrestlemania title shot. He would not have been able to win the Royal Rumble had he been in a title match as well, and headlining Wrestlemania is where you can expect to see HHH.

At this point they screwed up with Jericho already by the big push from main event World title match and now to an angle where they egged an injury riddled JBL out of retirement. No progression at all.
At this point with Hardy, I think all they are hoping for is someone who is healthy enough and stable enough in the company to hold the title or headline some PPV's.

Well, from what I read, HHH was none too thrilled with Jericho being pushed to Main Event immediately, and felt that Jeff Hardy deserved the push more. The thing with JBL is half right. They had to do something with Jericho, and JBL has been itching to get back in the ring for a while. Bingo, JBL/Jericho fued.
So, what I see happening is, if Hardy keeps the #1 contender slot, Orton will beat him at the Rumble, and HHH will win the Rumble, setting up the Orton/HHH WrestleMania (remember, Orton snubbed Evolution on the 15th Anniversary show, so there's a storyline there). Especially if they have Orton beat Flair before, thus ending Flair's career (No Way Out?). I cannot see WWE putting the main title on Jeff Hardy, at least not while HHH is around.
