Guess we lost our moral compass AND our moral authority, eh Uppy?

It is extremely easy and effective for Vladimir Putin to say, "Look, United States, don't lecture me on democracy — look at Abu Ghraib, look at Guantanamo."

I'd say our leaders lost their moral compass(did they ever have one) when they stole the 2000 election, it was like a third world coup. It was all downhill from there.

This country and it's leaders lost it's moral compass after Kennedy was assassinated.
I'll give Carter a pass and Reagan in his first term as he did get the hostages out of Iran and tried to get the economy moving again. He screwed it up in his second term with the War On Drugs and Iran-Contra.

Sorry Moon, Reagan doesn't get a pass for his first term. I voted for that ***** the first time too, biggest voting mistake of my life. Yeah he got the hostages out, because his vp ex-head of the CIA George Bush, , had struck a deal with the Iranians to hold them till
after the election, which later led to a secret govt getting arms to the Iranians in the Iran-Contra affair as part of the deal.
And, as Reagans own Budget Director called them, his "trojan horse tax cuts for the rich"
did little if anything to create new jobs as Reagan had hoped, and which he ended up very disappointed that they did not. The rich do not share, trickle down economics has been disproven over and over.

Just because his economic policy was not a success, doesn't mean he didn't try. You still have to remember that unemployment fell along with inflation.
I didn't like the defense budget and the quadrupling of the national debt, even though Reagan supposed support a balanced budget.
As you say, trickle down economics has been proven as a failure, but hindsight is 20/20.

Everybody is dumping on the US , meanwhile putin the pervert is quietly building a new and very dangerous dictatorship in russia. I guess everyone will be happy when american is on it's knees and the likes of putin and chevez are the big boys on the block. How stupid the western world has become. You think the world is a dangerous place with bush, the worst is yet to come and the free world will no longer be free. We will be on our knees to these people. I will take america over those truly dangerous idiots anyday. Hopefully the people will open thier eyes and realize before it is to late, that we are not perfect, far from it ,but alot better then the other (dark) side.

Its called democracy ticat. Freedom of speech.
I can criticize my govt all I want, and still be willing to defend it from any real outside threats.
We are trying to stop the slide to the darkside. The darkside about dictatorships and the old communist regimes was ones inability to speak out, about being spied upon, about locking people up and holding them with no rights whatsoever. About torture. Its hitting too close to home for many of us and we reject it.
But your observation about Putin may be very astute. I have never trusted the guy. He's a dangerous person, who longs for the glory days of the USSR, and I am sure still holds a grudge against us.
But hey, your president likes him
Most savvy people interested in politics knew Bush was at least borderline retarded long before his first meeting with Soviet dictator Russian president Vladimir Putin in Slovenia back in June of 2001. Those who didn't only had to hear the imbecilic American babbling "I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul." Neither George Bush nor Vladimir Putin has a soul. The difference between them is that Putin is intelligent enough to recognize it.
Putin could hardly keep a straight face as Bush described him as "trustworthy" and "straightforward." And Putin has run circles around him ever since. Even at that first meeting, while Bush, gushed and blushed like a teenage girl, Putin mentioned that he expected the U.S. to not act unilaterally on matters of importance to Russia. Bush may have been too busy looking for his soul to have understood his words.

There is a consensus that sometime prior to the expected return of Jesus, there will be a period of "trials and tribulations" during which the Antichrist, inspired by Satan, will attempt to win supporters with great works
Try again.

Lack of knowledge. That's not a personal attack. You didn't bother to even read the whole definition, did you? In other words, you are ignorant of what goes on there. I sincerely doubt that you've read ANY report by any organized group opposed to Gitmo. Therefore you lack knowledge about what is going on there. And that makes you ignorant of the reality of Gitmo or you wouldn't have said such a stupid comment, right? I was giving you the benefit of the doubt because the only alternative explanation other than ignorance is human cruelty. So, which one is it?
