For Syracuse the man to watch is going to be Donte Green. Ohio St. plays a 2 center line up with Harrington and Kufos. This works on offense because Kufos plays on the peremeter, but on D both guys move like a center. Neither one will be able to keep Greene in front of them. If Syracuse is going to win this game he's going to have 20+ points. I know Boehehim's tendencies and I'd bet anything Boeheim is going to make Greene a big big part of the offense today. There is simply no match for him on the Ohio St. side. If things work out the way we all want them too today Greene will be pushing 30 points. Of course this means Greene is going to have to be more than a spot up shooter (which is most of what he's done so far). He's going to have to shoot off screens, take it to the hoop and finish, and get himself free for the pull up jumper with the dribble. If he's up to the task we should be in for a very good game and year.
For Ohio St. the guy to watch is Butler, the point guard. He can get hot from three, and teams so far (especially Fordham) have had a field day shooting over Flynn's head. If Butler is contained I'd be surpirsed if we dont come away with a win. If he hits 6 threes or more, it might be a long night.

I would comment on Orange Nation and I both having to put the same picture in our sig's...but that won't be happening.
Jonny Flynn will be a household name by the end of the preseason NIT.

If we win two at the Garden Flynn is going to seriously blow up on the national seen, people already seem to be catching on. The kid speaks well and has a charismatic smile. People love Jonny and not just SU fans.
He's already got ESPN Player of the week, and Fox Sports player of the week.

As per usual, SU will most likely open in zone tonight and force OSU to make perimeter shots to get them out of it. But, in all honesty, I like the way this team plays man-to-man much better than they play zone anyway.
It may just be because they are so young and the Boeheim 2-3 takes a little while to get comfortable in and understand. Traditionally, when SU has a young team, they get better on D as the season goes on.
But this team is very athletic. And they actually have true positions in most rotations they use. So, they seem much better suited for playing M-2-M than most SU teams of the past.

For the Buckeyes you obviously have Koufos, who's a legit 7'', has a variety of inside moves and can also drain it from the perimeter.... can create mismatches. His defense is his liability... definately needs inprovement.
If Cuse plays thier zone look for a kid named Jon Diebler to knock down some key shots. He has yet to find his stroke this season, but he was a great shooter in HS... He's a coaches son, very smart... even though he hasn't been scoring he's getting his minutes.
David Lighty played wuite a bit last year in a more defensive role, he's starting to open it up offensively this year.... solid ball player.
Its so wierd, last years team was a completely different team than the year before, and this years team is completely different than last year....

Ohio State would seem to be the underdog on paper but I think I'll take them in an upset. Just a gut feeling.
Flynn got player of the week? Eric Gordon must not have been eligable? Is that a misprint or something?

Flynn debuted with 28 points, then had the "first signature moment of the college basketball season" in his second game.

Player of the Week
by Andy Katz
This could turn into a freshman of the week award at this rate. Kansas State's Michael Beasley took the honor in Week 1. Syracuse guard Jonny Flynn, though, has the signature moment of this young season with a 3-pointer with five seconds left to lift Syracuse past Saint Joseph's to advance to the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals later this week in New York. Flynn began the event with a 28-point debut in a win over Siena; he had nine assists and five turnovers in that opener. He didn't bother to shoot as much against Saint Joseph's, instead focusing on being a playmaker (with a sweet no-look dish on a fast break to Donte Greene during this game, too) with six assists and one turnover. His only bucket versus the Hawks was the game-winning trey. Flynn showed no hesitation in pulling up and making that shot in the final seconds.

There's more to playing than points.
As great as Gordon played (and he could have easily been named instead, I agree), Flynn also averaged 7.7 Assists (Gordon 4.3) and an impressive 3.8 to 1 AST/TO ratio (Gordon 1.9 to 1).

Scoring is one thing. Hitting a clutch last second 3 point shot to win the game is another.
I love the way Flynn plays. His matury is unbelievable for a freshman.

Sig it up boys. Flynn was cold as can be... and Butler the vet showed him a thing or two.
Koufos is impressive.
This Buckeye team is more of a college team than last year...which was basically a pro team.

Gordon does it all. Passing, shooting, defense, scoring.........I mean the total package. For as good as Flynn is I don't think he played as well as Gordon and I don't think he's as good as Gordon. Gordon should have got it if Flynn did.
I doubt you will see Gordon have a game like Flynn had tonight all year.

Yeah, Flynn has been very inconsistent since his first night. Gordon looks like he'll have few "bad" nights. But he is a freshman and that does happen sometimes. It even hapened to Melo a few games in our NC run.
I'm assuming Gordon will be 2 and done?! He won't be 20 (NBA age) until Christmas Day 2008.

Is it an age limit or just that you have to go to college for one year? I would be delighted if he couldn't turn pro until he turns 20 because that means we'd have him again next year but everyone keeps saying "1 and done" so I assume they just have to play one year of college ball and then they can go pro?
Either way he's putting Indiana back on the map and that I like to see. We are one of the greatest programs in college basketball history and we've been down for about 15 years (outside of the 2002 National Title game run). We should be a top 5 program year in and year out and I expect things to return to that form with Sampson and the impact of Gordon this year.

You are right.
He only needs a year. Here are the rules:
As of the 2006 NBA Draft high school players gain eligibility for draft selection one year after their graduating class has finished high school, but only if they also are at least 19 years of age as of the end of the calendar year of the draft
He'll be more than a year out of high school AND he'll be 20 (must be at least 19) during the same year of that draft.

I would have rather been wrong LOL!!!!
He'll do plenty of damage in his one year though. I think he'll put up 30 again tonight against Illinois State.
