The family computer has this Virtumonde virus/adware. Short of reformatting, anyone know how to get rid of it?

what antivirus you got?

avg will kill that. http://free.grisoft.com/

you could also run avg anti-spyware in safe mode.

both are free programs.

should do the trick.

Download this removal tool and run it (this specifically removes virtumonde).

Kaspersky Internet Security. Not cheap ($79) but not having it is why you have the virus in the first place.

The free stuff is OK, but Kaspersky is the Mercedes of internet security. They are the only company to offer solutions to emerging viruses within 0-2 hours of an outbreak with an automatic update to your machine.

I've never had a virus with it. It blocks all of them then tells you WHERE it came from.

Ohh. This is free. Download it. It rules. It's not a AV program. You'll see.
