Works for me. They had to meet his demands; glad to see Jorge finish his career in the pinstripes. Mariano need a contract next.

Yep. The always reliable Bill Madden says it's four years, $52 million. Good deal.
Jorge Posada, the 36-year-old free agent catcher, will remain a Yankee, sources familiar with the negotiations told the Daily News Monday night.
After being schmoozed by Mets general manager Omar Minaya Monday afternoon during a lengthy lunch at Le Cirque, Posada and his agents finally received the offer from the Yankees they had been hoping for all along.
The Yankees offered Posada a four-year, $52 million contract - the same deal they gave both Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui two years ago - to remain in pinstripes. The deal will become official pending a physicial and final contract language being ironed out.
In a lunch meeting with Brian Cashman on Friday, Posada and his wife, Laura, made it clear to the Yankees’ GM that they were seeking a four-year contract.
Cashman had been holding firm to the team’s original three-year, $40 million offer throughout the negotiations, but after mulling over the issue this weekend, Cashman, Hank and Hal Steinbrenner agreed during a morning conference call yesterday that they would give Posada the fourth year.

I understand he can control and guide the young pitching staff AKA Varitek so I see why he is being paid. But dam all 13 mill a year at 36? Will he even catch till he is 40??? These athletes are getting away with hell. And to top it off wasn't it one of his better offensive years in a while this past season if not one of his best?? So I dont see him keeping the same pace.
I am not being negative but these big money teams are ridiculous just as Boston with Schilling. And now an aging Lowell!! Its our beloved teams that is causing all this mess in MLB!!!

I never expected Jorge or Mariano to leave, 1 down 1 to go.

Good to Posada staying in pinstripes. I was hoping they wouldn't follow Torre.

Did we overpay for a 36 year old catcher? Yes
But I dont mind at all overpaying players who grew up in the system and have shown loyalty to the team over the years. He deserves what he is being paid
Plus he was clearly the best catcher on the market and we dont have anyone in our system who will be ready for at least another 1 or likely 2

That's the difference between NY, Boston, and everyone else. Teams like St. Louis can't overpay for guys like this. Even with our payroll at 100 million we have to be stingy in a lot of areas.
