ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels are baseball's exception: They openly admit they'd love to sign Alex Rodriguez.
The Angels had a meet-and-greet with A-Rod's agent, Scott Boras, at the general managers' meetings. The New York Mets also spoke with Boras but won't say whether they're in or out of the competition.
Tony Reagins, who just took over as the Angels' GM, had glowing words for A-Rod.
"We had an initial conversation with Scott, and it was introductory," he said Wednesday. "He probably makes any team that he's a part of better."
Reagins said if talks progressed, the Angels would welcome a chance to speak with Rodriguez. Reagins acknowledged marketing, as well as baseball skills, would play a role in a decision to sign A-Rod.
"In this day and age, I think that is a part of it," he said.

Wonder where the Ranges resident Angel fan thinks of this?

Well I have no idea why the Mets would be interested in him. A Rod has only ever played shortstop and 3rd, the Mets have Jose Reyes and David Wright, arguably their 2 best players at those positions. Carlos Delgado mans 1st base, and A Rod is no outfielder. Short of sticking him at 2nd I don't see where he fits.

They would move Wright to 1st and trade Delgado
Not saying I agree w/ it but that is the plan I have heard for him to be a Met
In reality though I really dont think the Mets are going to be players at all for Arod as much as Boras would like them to be

ORLANDO - Theo Epstein has left Orlando and is on his way back to Boston. The GM Meetings have concluded here with more table-setting for deals and free-agent signings than concrete news.
Epstein elaborated a bit more on the meeting with Scott Boras last night. He said a very small amount of time was devoted to discussion of Alex Rodriguez and most of the hour-plus meeting was to discuss Boras' current clients on the team. Epstein was somewhat miffed at media reports that portrayed the meeting as more elaborate and in depth.
Epstein said the Sox will continue to work on a deal to sign Mike Lowell, but left the meetings without an agreement on the popular third baseman

As a fan of the TEAM first, not individual players, he certainly helps the TEAM offensively. A-Rod’s demand for a $350 million contract was just his way to ensure his exit out of ny and only 2 teams can offer him 30 million and one of them is out of it.
A-Rod's gained about 25 lbs since he last played SS, it's far from a given that he can still handle that position defensively. I don't buy the "distraction" rationale as much as some have proposed. From what I've read, both Papi and Manny seem to have a pretty good relationship with the guy, which could prove valuable. It's all conjecture, but it seems that much of ARod's problems was that there didn't seem to be any established guys in the yankees clubhouse (ex. Jeter) that "had his back", and would serve as a buffer for the all the circus-like media coverage. He did want to come here before and was willing to take a paycut and we've won 2 championships since he's been with the Yankees. Maybe money wasn't the issue when he opted out. Maybe he just hated it in NY after getting booed while hitting 35 hrs, 120 rbi's...
As you all know I want A-rod in beantown. What about A-Rod makes him a dick? A fag? ok, sure, he tries to hard and parts of his personality scream, no define "effeminate". Lets get it straight people. He doesn't treat people like Barry Bonds. He speaks out much less than Curt. He cheats less than Boggs.
A-Rod's personality is what the media makes of it, much like "spy-gate", steroids in MLB (and somehow NOT in the NFL), and any other story or lack thereof. If they decide to put something, or PART of something in the spotlight, thats just how it is. They can ignore blatant game fixing (see last sunday) just as easily as they can put up 24 hour media coverage about Michael Vick. If this isn't clear to you, ask Jim Ed. He'll explain it for you loud and clear.
What did A-Rod do in New York that was so awful, honestly? Did someone piss on his wife? Was he speaking in the third person in every interview? Was he picking fights with teammates? Smoke crack out of his glove between plays at third? So far I haven't heard of any of that. But i did hear that HE HIT 50 ****ING HOME RUNS AND BROUGHT IN 150 RBI'S AND BATTED .314 IN ONE OF THE TOUGHEST PLACES TO PLAY.
Anyone remember who hit that grand slam after the two "important, awesome, best ever" players went down with the bases juiced. essentially killing the Indians pitching staff for the rest of the series?
I'll give you a hint. He hit over .300 in the postseason, despite being known as a "choker"
And lastly, I don't think any of this matters, because I don't think he would have opted out if he was concerned with money first. He was sick of the circus, and sick of millions of fans judging everything from his left nostril to what ugly women he brought home. He was sick of hearing about whether he was a "true yankee". He must have been sick of it, because we were sick of it, and he had to hear it 100 times for every one time we heard it. If so, good for him.

According to the Boston Globe, general manager Theo Epstein met Wednesday with agent Scott Boras, who "was ready to make a Boston-specific Rodriguez presentation to the Sox' brass, complete with charts and graphs on the revenue streams associated with the third baseman."Epstein noted afterward that the Red Sox didn't pursue the meeting, but Rodriguez has reportedly told friends that he'd like to play in Boston. "I think there's a realization in baseball that if you try to keep things the same, it will change on you anyway," Epstein said. "Players age and players change, chemistry changes, payroll structures change. Better to be proactive and try to find the right mix for now and in the future, rather than let it happen to you."

L.A. might be the best spot,if it happens.
The Angels have long coveted becoming the #1 team in the area, and while Arte Moreno has helped to build them into a contender,he still hasn't gotten the one piece that can really help. A-Rod might be it. It could take pressure off Vladimir Guerrero and allow him to DH full time. OTOH,I don't know how good of a fit he'll make in Mike Scioscia's system, where smart base-running takes precedence over a 3 run HR.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are approaching their 50th year in L.A. And you HAVE to assume they're going to make some sort of splash in the free-agent market. Rodriguez might just be it.
Orange: Maybe Alex did hit .300 in the postseason, but did he produce when it was needed the most? No,he did not. And it wasn't just against the Tribe, either. It stretched back before A-Rod,to be sure, but he hasn't helped his cause any by his post season tank jobs. IMO,part of the reason why the Yanks haven't won a World Series since 2000 is they have too many stars and not enough role players(i.e. Scott Brosius and Paul O'Neill).

how many others did? jeter? no. posada? no. cano? no.
Let's not overblow the ARod in the postseason thing.
Miguel Cabrera - 68 at bats, .786 OPS
Alex Rodriguez - 147 at bats, .844 OPS
Derek Jeter: 495 at bats, .846 OPS
Manny Ramirez - 353 at bats, .889 OPS
David Ortiz - 189 at bats, 1.005 OPS
For all the talk about Jeter's postseason heroics and ARod's colossal failures, they've put up quite similar offensive lines.
It was Mariano Rivera's in 2004, and he blew it. If not, ARod is a winner, and this whole ARod is a loser radio talk chaff wouldn't exist.
