He will opt out. Yanks have already stated they will not offer him if he did so.
Bye, bye, Alex. Have fun in Chicago.

A-Rod to opt out of contract
Agent Boras notifies Yankees of free-agent intentions
Posted: Sunday October 28, 2007 10:14PM; Updated: Sunday October 28, 2007 10:12PM
By Jon Heyman, SI.com
DENVER -- Alex Rodriguez notified the Yankees Sunday that he's opting out of his record $252 million contract, SI.com has learned.
Rodriguez's decision means he will become a free agent and be able to negotiate with all clubs. Rodriguez's bombshell move will shake up the entire winter for the Yankees -- who had hoped to retain him with a big extension -- as well as other big-market clubs that will now pursue him.
Rodriguez's agent Scott Boras said he sent word of the opt-out in writing Sunday and left phone and text messages for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. The Yankees have said that once A-Rod opts out, they wil not pursue him, since they will lose the benefit of the Texas Rangers' $30-million subsidy.
"Alex made the decision today,'' Boras said. "I thought we should notify the club.''
The Yankees were preparing an extension to his current contract for either five or six years, believed to be for close to $30 million annually. However, team officials said Boras has politely declined to meet with them in recent days, and they never presented the offer.
Rodriguez technically had until 10 days after the World Series ended to exercise his opt-out rights, which were provided in his $252 million Texas deal. However, Boras said Rodriguez felt there was no way he could make a decision to stay in that short a period of time since several situations remain unsettled, including those of Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte.
way to steal our thunder.

Good riddance to that greedy chump. If $25 million isn't enough for you to stay a Yankee, we don't want you.
New ideas:
Miguel Cabrera (make a big trade);
Mike Lowell (free agent).

Well according to espn, its not a money things, its the uncertainty of posada, pettite, and rivera coming back that made him opt out.
But as a Yankees fan i'm kinda bummed out, the guys going to be the AL MVP, he'll probably break Bonds record ( still hate saying that ), those dont come around too often. Plus if it wasnt for him imo, the yanks would of missed the playoffs this year.

That's just a convenient excuse, in my opinion. Posada, Pettitte and Rivera will all be back, and A-Rod knows it.

Obviously Boras and Arod think they can get more than the 72M that was left in his first outrageous contract. Hell with him then, all that money can go to a lot more players that will make the Yanks a better team next year.

Boras is a douche. But as for A-Rod I don't want him on the Sox, Mike Lowell and his Iron Man entrance music must stay.

It's all about money. This guy announces this in the middle of Game 4 of the WS, that tells you all we need to know about him. good riddance to him, now hopefully we can o back to winning instead of the watching the ARod circus.

Not that Im promoting AROD coming to beantown, but how interesting would it be if the Sox send Lugo on the 1st bus out of town and resigned Lowell and took a stab at AROD at his natural position?

That would certainly be interesting,
Pedroia
Youk
Ortiz
Manny
A Rod
Lowell
Drew
That would be the best lineup in baseball

Believe me, guys, you'll screw up a good thing by bringing A-Rod to the Red Sox. Some guys just aren't destined to ever be winners; he's one of them, like Bonds. There's just something negative about A-Rod that suggests he's a big-time player who can't step up in a key spot and probably never will.
As a Yankee fan/Sox hater, I am rooting for him to end up in Boston.

I'm not, Boston plays New York 19 or is it 18? times a year. That right there could be the difference between a Yankees postseason or not. He may not be clutch in the postseason, but he certainly can hit in the reg season. If Boston were to land him they could push 110 wins next year.

I'm on the fence with him, because he can be a hell of an aquisition, or the "new curse"

A-Rod won two MVPs as a Yankee, granted, but I wish Aaron Boone never played that fateful game of pickup basketball. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the best regular-season player in baseball.

ARod's probably the best player during the regular season but when October comes around he's no where to be found. He's never won a World Series for a reason. I'll miss the bat from April-Sept but won't miss it at all in October.

A-rod is officially the douchebag of the MLB.
Sure, I'm a biases yankee fan and everyone will say i didn't appreciate him. Bullshit. I did, and i also noticed the fact that he didnt do jack in the postseason. I hopped on the arod bandwagon as soon as we got him and soon thereafter started to dislike him. There's something about his nonchalant way that just makes me hate him. He doesn't show much passion, and is a little pussy.
This quote defines a-rod...
"There was no reason to make an announcement last night other than to try to put his [A-Rod's] selfish interests and that of one individual player above the overall good of the game," said Bob DuPuy, baseball's chief operating officer.
That may be the only thing I will ever sympathize with Sox fans about, that this metrosexual, egotistical shmuck timed his anticipated opting out as the sox win the series. What a freakin jerkoff.

i'd be happier with a bunch of melky/joba type players that actually want to play and arent making 3 million per at bat

I disagree with all of you that A-Rod is all about money - maybe Boras is all about money. If it is only money - A-Rod will at least listen to the big offer Cashman was piling for him. He could have always opted out later. A-Rod needs a little love - he needs to be 'the guy' in the clubhouse. Yeah - he will get paid - but he will not make more than if he would have stayed with Yankees considering endoresement etc.
You don't think this was actually just A-Rod saying "**** you" to the Yankees and NY in general? I am assuming this guy is harboring some pretty deep resentment for being booed despite hitting 30+ HR and 120+ RBI in 2006. The Yankee "love" for A-Rod has really been bandwagonism at its best, as most Yankee fans didn't let A-Rod ride through his difficulties while they were frustrated with the overall direction of the team.
He figures, if the Yankee fans aren't smart enough to know that pitching wins championships just as much as (if not more than) offense does, they don't deserve him.
I'm actually wondering if he'll end up taking a deal that is less than what the Yankees offered him. The Red Sox were willing to get very creative with him a few years ago in terms of secondary benefits to his contract but the players union held it back because it reduced the value of his contract. I'm pretty sure he's free to reduce the value of his contract if he wants to.
I doubt Boras will push for less than before, but I think a big part of his choice to leave was that he wanted to LEAVE and didn't have much interest in playing for the Yankees.
