I did some research and thinking today, and i have picked my next president. Who would you pick?

I voted for Fred Thompson because i agree with all these:
Abortion (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.abortion.html)
Opposes abortion rights. Says Roe v. Wade is a "bad law" and "bad medical science."

Immigration (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.immigration.html)
Supports stricter enforcement of existing laws to prevent future influx of illegal immigrants. Opposes blanket amnesty programs, but willing to consider allowing some illegal immigrants to earn citizenship without being unfair to those here legally. Supports expanding visa program for skilled workers.

Iraq (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.iraq.html)
Voted for use of military force in Iraq. Supports Bush Iraq policy, but says U.S. entered war with too few troops and wrong strategy.

Same-sex marriage (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.samesexmarriage.html)
Opposes same-sex marriage. Personally opposes civil unions, but says the issue should be left to states.

Social Security (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.socialsecurity.html)
Voted in favor of using budget surplus funds to create a private savings account program as a supplement to Social Security.

Taxes (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/issues/issues.taxes.html)
Voted in favor of 2001 Bush tax cut law.

What a douche, you left Paul off on purpose. Appreciate Meathead pointing that out. You now gonna claim that all the people here who say they want paul are the same person with different user names? Sad that people ignore Paul or make up lies to try and sway voters away from him, he IS top tier, deal with it.

Most votes so far here are for Ron Paul but he leaves him off the ballot?

Actually I am not surprised.

The party is telling it's hacks to ignore Paul, and like good bots they are obliging.

That's pretty shameful Jro.

And you are right Meathead. This poll is tainted. Even nehe's choice of Chris Dodd is off the ballot.

But with Paul being one of the most popular candidates here in the PRS I am more than a little surprised.

Nah.

You're being a good party member.

And the slap at Ron Paul? Well...the neoncon hijack will obliterate your party (Fred's one of them, so is Benito) because no Paulite will ever ever vote for them.

And a non-vote is a lost vote which is a vote against Fred. That section of lost votes is going to kill you guys. Because you are wrong. They won't "vote for you anyways".

Nice disrespect for the libertarian wing of your party. First rule of politics. Don't shit on the people that put you in power.

Ron Paul has no chance, you're like the stupid liberals on Democratic Underground who think

because to get the best you need to change your mindset. I mean why the **** do you vote for someone who can win? Why not vote for the best in the primary? Denny is getting my vote in the MO primary, he doesn't have a chance in hell but I am voting for him and if I could I'd also vote Ron Paul as he is the least offensive GOPer there. It seems silly to vote for the money candidate that big business and interest groups already have sown up and then bitch about how lousy candidate x is once they get their office. Really Jro its too late to start whining in the general election season because by then the big money and interest groups already ensure that they come out on top regardless of who you vote for. Face it Hillary and Rudy G/Freddo are in the best interests of the interest groups and big business. Ron Paul and Denny K are the best out there but they don't have a shot because although folks like AnEin, Pete, and myself will give all money we have available to support them at the grass roots level the big spenders can drown us out. Thats why I talk up who I see as the best candidate(s). I don't like Ron Paul but he is the best the GOPers have and I would be queezy but okay with a general election between Paul and Kucinich because while Paul would slash and burn social programs he would protect the constitution and Kucinich would give social programs and protect the constitution so I could live with either one. Sure it may be silly, but letting big money and interest groups decide who we get to vote for is downright undemocratic and so in this case I'd take silly over undemocratic any day of the week.

I was of this opinion Uppy, but if the GOP has Rudy (and I think this is a forgone conclusion) they will take Huckaby because he is that good southron Christian boy as VP. The neo-CONS are not idiots and they know that you want to represent diverse regions and patronize your moral minority base. Huckaby does this and allows them to offer Rudi G to garner the "OMG who will save me from the big bad Bin Laden/ Law and Order" vote. It would be Romney and Freddo but Romney is a mormon and considering that only one catholic, one athiest, and no jews have ever been sent to 1600 Penn Romney won't cut the mustard in the eyes of the Christian conservative "values" voter and Freddo admits to not even being a Christian (this is ballsy by a GOPer and its honesty which are two things I kind of like about him). Also the GOPers thrive on the "Help Me, Help Me, somebody Help Me" vote since 9/11 and Rudy is perfect for this. Fred and Mitt are not. It will be Rudy and Huckaby vs Hillary and Edwards or Hillary and Gore IMHO.

Now I will go further, check the money trail and see who is giving to the candidates and the ones that have the most corporate and interest group cash flowing into their war chests are the ones who will get to the general election. As for who wins it all, well thats simple. Hillary will be the 44th president and Guelphs v Ghibellinis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guelphs_and_Ghibellines trend established in 1980 will continue which means that for at least thirty two years a Bush or Clinton will have occupied the first or second most powerful executive office in the land.

Still think Dr Paul can't win?

http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/articles/ron-paul-general-election-vs-hillary-clinton.html

What strikes us as being very interesting is the fact that he leads among 40 year olds and not far off among 30 year olds. Please note that the margin of error of each age subgroup is larger than the total poll itself. Thus, Ron Paul is statistically in a dead heat with Hillary Clinton among 30-year olds and with 40-year olds.

And for the love of the nation, PLEASE elect someone NOT connected with our new royal rulers! For ****'s sake....

AnEin, if only the public had a role in deciding who gets sent to DC then it would be Denny K and Ron Paul and as much opposed as I am to the good doctor on social programs he is the best in the GOP field and I would not have a desire to flee to Canada if he won. Sadly corporatists and lobbyists have far more influence in who gets the office than you or I. By the time a candidate reaches the general election its already a forgone conclusion who it will be because the DNC and GOP label is a misnomer as the candidates have already been vetted for what they can do for business and interest groups. Paul won't win simply because of this. Another DK and Dr. Paul have against them is that You, Pete, I and others here represent only a small fraction of the general public as the general public usually only waits until the general election to get active if they get active at all because they only vote on the party line and the Jro idea of who is less evil. If the public decided to make the system work for them then yes we would have great candidates. I mean tell me AnEin would you not have loved in 1992 if we had had Tsongas/Bush/Perot? We have really fouled things up in this nation due to complacency and even the get out the vote campaign (a good start, but needs to go further) does not address the issue of the primaries.

I want Newt

I don't know Gibby, I'd rather argue and fight for what I believe is right than just throw my hands up in a nihilist "corps own everything so might as well give up" attitude. :)
