So the News reports this morning that rather than pulling up Sekera for an injured Spatch, Lindy is thinking of using Pommer on D.

Rather than an indictment against Sekera, could this be an attempt by Lindy to prepare Pommer for work on the point on the power play? Seems to me getting him a few games' worth of D in there might help when he's on the power play, prepared to play good D when there's a breakout by the killers.

Might be a slick strategy, might lead to a more lethal power play.....

Nope. I assume Sekera will be here shortly.

Sabres defenseman Jaroslav Spacek did not practice with the team Tuesday at HSBC Arena, and is expected to miss this weekend’s games against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens.

Following a hard hit into the boards from Maple Leafs’ Nik Antropov Monday night in the final minutes of regulation, Spacek left the ice with a sprained shoulder.

Antropov received a two-minute penalty for boarding on the play.

“He’s sore,” Ruff said of Spacek. “He’s going to be out for the weekend and then we’ll just evaluate it on a day-to-day basis after that.”

Jason Pominville practiced with the defense in Spacek’s absence. The move is temporary, as Ruff said the team will make a decision as to who to bring up from Rochester later this week.

Spacek has recorded four goals and six points in five games this season. He is second on the team’s defense in scoring behind Brian Campbell with nine points (1+8). Spacek enters his second season with the Sabres after signing as a free agent in 2006. He notched 21 points in 65 games last year.

Pominville already has experience playing the point on the power play, and Lindy is on record as being comfortable with him there. We need him up front for his regular shift.

Yeah, Pommer has been playing the point on the PP for the past two years, he's as comfortable as he is going to get beck there. Rochester might have been traveling and not able to get Sekara there in time for practice and they needed someone to take the turn as the 6th D-man in the rotation. Pommer has done it before, but believe me unless it is a dire emergency, they want that guy on Connolly's wing, not on the the blue line next to Tre.

Or maybe move pommer to D and bring up Clarke?
