pre-season hockey?

maybe it just me but i have never been able to get into pre-season hockey, i think in my lifetime i have watched one pre-season game.

It's not like football, you pretty much know who is going to make the team and who is not.

Do you guys watch it? If so, am i missing anything?

just for the fix. it's been a long time w/out some hockey.

and the excuse to drink beer and scream at the computer.

I have seasons and I don't think I am even going to the game Friday. Like Bduff, I just can't get into it. Especially this year, with only one roster battle going on.

I've only attended one pre-season game, Leafs vs Sabres at MLG back in the 85-86 season.
The cool thing is we had gold seats, right behind the Sabres bench. Scotty Bowman was coaching & he was swearing like a trucker at his players.

Other than that, I have no reason or desire to go see another pre-season game.
My uncle in Ottawa has 12 season ticket seats and he's always trying to unload pre-season tix, but it's just not worth the drive, just for the game, unless I happen to be in Ottawa for another reason.

You know which games are really cool in 'pre-season' though are international exhibition games i.e. Canada/US, etc. when they are tuning up for the Olympics, etc. I've been to @ 15-20 of those over the years for Canada Cup/World Cup/Olympic teams on the men's side, for WJC teams and for Olympic teams on the women's side.

For me pre-season is the time when John Sim tears it up like a 50 goal scorer and then winds up getting traded or released halfway through the season.

It's a good time to see the future of the team out there. I like to see who could be up and coming in a couple of years.

You like to hear that the team is doing well, but like you said, you already know who is going to make the team. It's not like the NFL.

Speaking of which, how funny is it how much energy was spent arguing during the preseason about Fred Jackson, Craig Nall, Shaud Williams, and Terrenance Pennington? What a waste of time. Even if the Bills were good, none of those fringe players would end up making any impact anyways. That the team is what it is makes it so funny in retrospect that any of those arguments were given any time at all.

Hockey's my favorite sport, but I can't watch the preseason at all. Just get me to Oct. 5.
