SKIPPING ON $2 MILLION BAIL
Warrant Is Issued for Hsu
The legal troubles of Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu continued to escalate yesterday when he skipped out on $2 million bail in connection to a 15-year-old felony theft case.
Fundraiser Norman Hsu surrendered to the San Mateo County Superior Court Aug. 31 but failed to appear yesterday for a hearing.
Hsu had turned himself in to a California court last week. Law enforcement officials there had not realized that Hsu had become an increasingly prolific donor to Democratic candidates and causes and had most recently become a major bundler for Sen. Hillary Clinton (N.Y.), raising more than $100,000 for her presidential bid.
When the Los Angeles Times made the connection between the "Hillraiser" and his outstanding warrant, Hsu had initially voiced a desire to clear up the matter. He had been scheduled to appear before San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Robert Foiles yesterday to try to reduce his bail. Hsu's failure to appear meant he will now forfeit the bail entirely. Foiles issued a new arrest warrant, and said he will be jailed without bail if caught.
