The information here is to assist new college students in their academic careers

1) Go to class and take copious amounts of notes
2) Do not go out and instantly declare a major because it will change at least once, but on the other hand know what your major is by your junior year
3) Get to know your professors, ask questions, go by their office, and see how they tick. Trust me at times- and this includes college- its who you know as much or more so than what you know
4) If you are sinking in a class (that is making a D or F in a class by the end of september, then for God Sakes drop that class like a bad habit)
5) Get involved in campus activities including clubs, intramural sports, academic and social greek organizations, student government and live life large because these next 4-7 years go by quicker than you'll want them to
6) Get to know the walmart because lets be real here even if you never shopped there before you will by the end of your first year.
7) Get out and have fun go to parties (on the weekend, or if you find yourself in an academic hole then when you get your shit together) responsibly. This means if you are going to **** then wear a condom (ladies make sure he wears a condom) because guys and gals lets be real here you can't afford a baby and you don't want to explain why you were stupid to your parents. IF you get drunk, please don't drive and preferrably if you drink only do so in moderation. A little bit of a buzz is okay but soused is wrong
8) If you can't get along with your roommate then ASAP get a change to either different roommate, private room, or own apartment
9) Get to know the layout of your library
10) Chat with older students who have been there longer and find out which teachers are evil and which are tolerable
11) Stay the hell away from those vultures passing out credit card applications. Especially the capital one people as that card is not worth having in your wallet when you are getting minimum wage from your work study or living off student loans, grants, scholarships, and the central bank of mom and dad. They'll say build up good credit, fine do so but only when you have enough money that you won't be tempted to spend more than you can pay off by the end of the monthly billing cycle
12) Use the library and interlibrary loan for all novels and supplementary books (especially in the humanities, social sciences, and non math and science classes) as you will save a bundle of money. Furthermore, as I have done it, don't be ashamed to check out a textbook from the library as it will save you 40 to 70 bucks. Also use half.com and Amazon and you can save money. Lets face it the bookstore is a for profit enterprise no matter what your college or university says about how the institution is not for profit
13) Apply for any and all scholarships you can have even if it is those 100 and 200 dollar scholarships because those add up over the years and reduce your loans and out of pocket costs.
14) Wikipedia is not an acceptable source.
15) Buy yourself a good style guide.
