I'd take Avery, but where does he fit? And have the Rangers officially parted ways with him?
Let's look at the forwards: Connolly, Kotalik, Afinogenov, Vanek, Roy, Ryan, Pominville, Hecht, Gaustad, Mair, Paille, Peters, Stafford. That's the top 13. I wouldn't mind signing Avery and jettisoning Kotalik. We're officially stuck with Peters, and Ryan signed a one-way contract. He'll be here.
No room for Avery, then, unless someone is traded.

Absolutely not, he is nothing but a two bit punk on the ice. He doesn't fit our system, and he is just a good. I would rather have someone who has their play talk over their mouth.
Avery over Kotalik??? Really???
Kotalik is strong on the ice, just a solid player, he may not be a scoring machine, but he is just an overall solid hockey player. I feel like ppl underrate his heart, he wants to win so bad. I just remember him crying out on the ice when the Sabs lost to Carolina, and him crying when he got off the plane from carolina seeing the fans.... I will always remember that.

Step away from the computer and no one will get hurt...
Seriously man, what are you smoking and where can we get some? I'd rather get Varada back from Switzerland than trade for or sign Avery.

Avery? You're not serious?
Oh, you are.
Hmmm, lets see....I know !
Why dont you re-read the Ny Post article on his arbitration. That should give a good starting point for why we DONT need that psychotic loose cannon on this team.
Desperation can make for some seriously questionable choices by our brothers in fan land.
This loser is going to be near a $2 million cap hit. For what he brings to the table we can fast track Kaleta (a young tough player that I have much respect for ) and bring him up and down from Ra-cha-cha anytime we want without clearing waivers (true rookie).
Avery=bad, M-kay?
IMHO

he is a little dirtbag but i think he will only get better, he showed me that he can really play last year. Sure his playoffs were bad but that has happened to many people before.

Called it.
Anyway, I've said it before, but while Avery may be good at playing the agitator role, he won't do anything to make the Sabres any less "soft." He's a small player (we have these already, but they're better players) who chases after other small players who normally couldn't care less about physical play (i.e. Roy and Briere). I wouldn't look to him to send a message to the opposition unless he wants to give them a good laugh.

We need this type of agitator player. Avery is the 2nd coming of Matthew Barnaby, and would help the team a lot.

Why not?
If he isn't what we expect, it's not like he wouldn't be dispensable by the trade deadline...

Head case, rockstar wannabe, cheap shot artist, weak shot, big mouth, playoff push-over = not a chance in hell.

lots of guys are scumbags, but some of them can bring a nice element to your team.

True, but I think that Avery is more trouble than he's worth (Elisha Cuthbert not withstanding).

That's not really my main point....my point is we couldn't stand the guy before....now everyone is in a love fest....well any UFA who is mentioned as a guy who possibly has the Sabres interest sends this board into a lovefest.

To my mind, Tucker is a much better player... which makes him more annoying as well.

AMEN! agreed 1000 percent, Avery's attitude alone would gurantee that we wouldn't win the stanley cup. He is the biggest cancer of all in the lockerroom.
I'll take Darcy Tucker before I take Avery. Yeah Duff, I said it.
