Adding those two forwards, and bringing in a solid, physical defenseman while removing the likes of Kotalik, Kalinin, Spacek would help to kill the sting of the Drury/Briere departures.
I could live with 4 lines of:
Vanek - Zubrus - Afinogenov
Shanahan - Roy - Stafford
Hecht - Connolly - Pominville
Paille - Gaustad - Mair
However, I doubt we do anything significant.

I highly doubt Shanny would come here. Goose should be the 3rd line center. Connolly should center the top line or there is no reason to keep him.

Also, Shanahan and D-Staff are the same player minus about 60 years, so it wouldn't make sense to have them on the same line.

I'd love Shanahan, but I'm so disgruntled with the front office that I can't even suspend my disbelief long enough to think they'll sign anyone worth a damn.

Shanny has said all along he'll sign with NYR or retire.

I'm not sure how much Shanny has left in the tank.
I also doubt Zubrus will be here with Drury and Briere gone.

Zubs for the right price would be helpful. As long as he continues to play physical. He can play the wing or center, that is something the Sabres may need if he have an injury or two. The price needs to be right though, otherwise we are better off brining the young talent up.
