View Full Version : Republicans take their ball and go home...

The first session of the new Congress has been painfully ineffective so far.

And unless you only read the inane bullshit on newsmax.com, you probably know why.

The reason is that crybaby Republicans insist that if they can't run the country, no one can.

The Republicans have made a concerted effort to block virtually anything and everything Senate attempts to deal with, regardless of bi-partison efforts to pass said legislation in many cases.

The Republicans have employed 13 filibusters this session.

****ing 13.

For reference, that's 3 times as many as the first sessions of the past two Congresses combined.

Two bills in particular that had broad bi-partison support like the Ethics Reform Bill or the 9/11 Recommendations Act (both of which passed by huge majorities) have been railroaded by Republicans in the conference committee stages.

And of course the "liberal media" is placing the blame on the Democrats for being a "do-nothing" Congress...

Right-wing pussies are ostensibly taking their ball and going home.

When you say conference committee stages what do you mean.
What is the normal procedure with committee?
Are you referring to the House?

The current republicans politicians are everything wrong with this country... shoddy logic, purposeful derailing of legislation, and flat out lies....oh...and everything else they did before they lost Congress. I don't have a problem with republican ideals per se....i do have a big problem with the current "republicans" who are destroying this country.

What happened to you when you were gonna teach me about the real world...i was looking forward to making you look stupid.

There have been more delays because dem leadership won't compromise with the rep minority to come to an agreeable position.

The republicans when in the majority made more compromises to gain the minorities support no?

How many Bills did Bush veto?

I'm not taking a side in it just saying what is happening.
Fillibuster refusing to grant a motion to proceed are all bs.
I watch it all day everyday and they both use these tactics.
To a disgraceful and frustrating fault.
Nobody can honestly paint one party only for doing it.
They both use whatever they have at their disposal.
Unless of course they can get enough of what they want to proceed.
It has always been this way and it will continue...............................

Just killing time.:burp:

I have to laugh, because I've outsmarted even myself. My enemy, my foe, is an animal. In order to conquer the animal, I have to learn to think like an animal. And, whenever possible, to look like one. I've gotta get inside this guy's pelt and crawl around for a few days.

Any thoughts on why they would be doing this if there is a president from their party who could veto these things? I know he disagrees with them about the immigration bill, but it can't be true for all 13 things have have used the 'nuclear option' for.

I thought it had to do with getting an up or down vote of the majority in the case of judges no?

Can you explain the nuclear option?

The nuclear option is what it was called it when the Dems. threatened to not vote for cloture on issues when they were in the minority; when Uppy denounced it and called for the rules of the Senate to be changed to prevent the minority from having any say.

It is the last, desperation effort. The nuclear option.

These two political parties we have definitely earned their stereotypes. The GOP are a pack of hypocritical blowhards and the Dems are a bunch of limp wristed fairys.

What is it going to take to get out of this rut?

I've been saying this for a number of years: retrenchment.

It will be cool. You will tell your grandkids.

It was mostly about getting an up or down vote on judges.
Pretty much exclusively if I remember right.
The nuclear option is an effort a tactic if you will to reduce the required 60 vote rule for Cloture.
It wasn't used however and is not being used now.

Too true.

So any ideas on why they are filibustering when the president could veto anything they object to and can't stop through the legislative process? I don't really get it. Are they trying to prevent him from having to veto things?

They don't count on him to veto anything.
