Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul will add party crashing to his campaign tactics this weekend.

The Texas congressman, who has struggled to top 1 percent in national polls, wasn't invited to a forum of presidential candidates Saturday in Des Moines. The gathering is sponsored by the Iowa Christian Alliance and the watchdog group Iowans for Tax Relief.

Instead of grumbling, Paul's campaign decided to hold its own party - in the same hall as the forum. They're calling it a celebration of life and liberty.

Campaign spokesman Jesse Benton said it has been frustrating to be excluded, especially since Paul has consistently opposed abortion and is known nationally for his advocacy of lowering taxes

idiots, your having a forum to let everyone express their ideas but not inviting Paul cause his ideas are different is just plain wrong.

Opinions do vary on Paul that's how it works here.
But no matter what one might think he should be included.
My opinion only thank you.

Give Ron Paul a chance people hear what the man has to say!!!

If we can't or won't define the enemy, the cost to fight such a war will be endless. How many American troops are we prepared to lose? How much money are we prepared to spend? How many innocent civilians, in our nation and others, are we willing to see killed? How many American civilians will we jeopardize? How much of our civil liberties are we prepared to give up? How much prosperity will we sacrifice? [...] I support President Bush and voted for the authority and the money to carry out his responsibility to defend this country, but the degree of death and destruction and chances of escalation must be carefully taken into consideration.

Ed Failor Jr., executive vice president of Iowans for Tax Relief, said some candidates weren't invited in order to keep the event from stretching on too long.

The publicity for being denied is far greater than he ever would have received if he'd been invited.

So I say to all other GOP debate organizers: Keep it up!

Let him win the presidency then the libertarians swarm in, take over the party, completely transform it and boot out the holy rollers and jackboots.

You can't take anything off the table but in my judgement it does seem his best opportunity would be as an Independent.

I don't jlb - it costs an independent far too much in terms of time and money just to get ballot access. As a Republican he pulls in the entire machine, and will BE on the ballot without having to think about it. His money ( my money :D) can then be spent on WINNING.

That'd be like asking Larry Flynt to run with Jerry Falwell. :)

I said that a few days ago.

Here's the thing. Most people think in terms of "their team". "Who can we pair up to win this thing"?

Paul doesn't think this way. There's no way he'd have Rudy, Bloomberg, McCain, or any of those other boobs as a running mate. Wouldn't do it. Nope.

I really wish that were true but I sincerely doubt it. People who don't have a lot of time to research candidates will look to mainstream media for their information. We already know what the mainstream media thinks about Ron Paul.

I think the only people who know about him at the moment are the type that do their own research on the internet. Too many people live in their own little bubble - impervious to all but the most catastrophic personal events.

I am convinced that if the election was held on the internet, Ron Paul would be the next president of the United States.

So that said, in effort to reach the American Idol/Mainstream news crowd, I am going to write www.ronpaul2008.com in red ink on all the money I spend :P

Dr Paul has a lot of time, and the quarterly filings will surprise a lot of people, I'd bet.

LOTS of time before the election. Bill C wasn't even a tear in the Dems eyes 17 months out.

Dr Paul keeps getting blocked on stuff (and getting in the news that way), keeps getting the youtube and other online 'press', the mainstream will have to keep reporting on him. THEN people will know about him and his numbers will climb. Guaranteed.

I think one possibility Ron Paul is only polling at 1% is his supporters are younger. I think most people 18-25 only have cell phones and only land lines get called for polls.

Kind of an injustice to him since the internet shows totally different numbers.

Either that or all the people who support his drug policy are in jail...:D

Message from Ron Paul

Dear friend,

From time to time, I’m going to send you my thoughts during this campaign. Your support is so important to me, and I want you to know what’s happening.

Today, we had good news from the US Senate—not exactly a normal occurrence—when the president’s immigration bill went down in flames.

Here we had a vastly expensive piece of legislation that would have made the immigration problem worse, and put more controls on the economy. So naturally, the entire establishment was behind it. It was a slam-dunk, or so they thought. Then the American people got riled up, and despite all the special interests, the pressure, the media, and the money, scared the politicians enough to vote the right way.

If our campaign succeeds, this will happen on a whole range of issues. The politicians will hear from the people on foreign wars, high taxes, Fed inflation, and all the other plagues visited on us by DC. And listen they will.

And speaking of our campaign, I am very excited by the Iowa rally this Saturday (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=16OCg4C1fq5W47gNJo_2bDHw_3d_3d). This is an historic moment. Of course, the Iowa Christian Alliance and Iowans for Tax Relief had the right to exclude the most pro-life, anti-tax candidate in the race. But when they did so, people rose up. So we are holding a rally that will reverberate around this country. Our campaign goes from strength to strength, but I am convinced that this Saturday will be very important in the fight for a free, peaceful, and prosperous America.

Maybe you can come to the rally. In any event, I know you’ll be there in spirit, and I’ll write you all about it afterwards. Your support in this race means everything to my family and me.

Warmest regards,

Ron

PS: Because of people like you, I don’t need the $100 million the establishment candidates will have. But I do need your help. $25, $50, $100, or even more--whatever you can send would do so much good, and be so much help. Thank you!

I just talked to an old teammate of mine from college that lives in Iowa. He told me that there were hardly any regular advertisements on the radio or TV, all campaign ads. Unfortunately, he’s a Buffalo transplant and is registered as a democrat. I at least got him to consider Kucinich.

Ron Paul - Iowa Update
Attendance at the actual forum (that Dr. Paul was not invited to) numbered around 600 out of an expected 1250.

Ron Paul's event had over 1000 attendees (not yet verified).

Ron Paul Controversy Over Iowa Tax Rally Turnout
Sunday, July 01, 2007 - FreeMarketNews.com

Did republican candidate Ron Paul draw more attendees to his rally than the Iowa Tax Forum from which he was excluded? The campaign and some eye witnesses say that the rally held next door to an Iowa GOP tax forum – sponsored by the Iowans for Tax Relief and the Iowa Christian Alliance - drew at least 1,000 individuals. This would have been at least 200-400 more than the forum itself, and would have raised even more questions about the reasoning behind excluding Ron Paul – supposedly because he does not have an organization in Iowa, nor the capacity to build one.

The Des Moines Register reported the following: “Outsider Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul headlined a raucous campaign rally Saturday after a multi-candidate GOP forum in Des Moines to which the Texas congressman was not invited. An audience of more than 600 GOP activists turned out for the Paul event, held in Hy-Vee Hall next door to where six candidates addressed a subdued crowd of much the same size earlier. … Paul has built a loyal following of people attracted to the politician's libertarian stance on constitutional rights and opposition to the war in Iraq.”

Iowapolitics.com meanwhile placed the Ron Paul rally attendance figures around 600 and the Iowa Tax Forum around 800. However, an apparent Ron Paul rally attendee put Ron Paul’s total much higher, commenting on the Des Moines Register article as follows: "Yep I was there, I was not going to say anything about this report that you have about Dr. Paul but I was there and I can tell, you are trying to make it look as if it was nothing. We had people in there from all walks of life, from all parties, from all faiths, from all over Iowa. We were there for the Dr. You say that there were about the same in Dr. Paul’s gathering as there were next door. Well I looked in there and there were plenty of seats available next door. We had all 1000 seats filled and there were at lease 200 people standing. So what you should have said is that one man drew twice as many as the forum. One of these days you will feel proud when you start to tell the truth. Stop following and be a leader. I know, because I was there.”
