Buyin a TV

OK, so I got a $1000 gift certificate from work to the Galleria mall, and I wanna buy a TV. Sears has the Vizio 42 in. Plasma on sale for $850. Now I can go with that one, or shell out a little bit more dough for the Toshiba Regza 1080p LCD floor model TV for $1200. Now, I'm a cheap bastard, so the $300 price difference is huge ... but I think the 1080p LCD is the way to go. Anybody have any thoughts?

I would take the Toshiba. The Vizio looks good too but if I came across an LCD like that $1200 I would snatch it up stat. :niterider

IMO the brands that you can't go wrong with are

Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi.

All have good review. And I'd go with LCD personally. The contrast is getting as good as plasma.

The technology has improved dramatically. Now better than plasma in most regards.

I have a 32 inch vizio LCD in my bedroom and a 50 inch Samsung DLP in my living room.... they are both awesome.

I would shell out the extra 300 though... but you best bet is to just look at them side by side showing something in HD... ask the kid at the store to set it up...

Awesome thread. I'm thinking about getting a 50+ incher for football season. I'm diging the sonys and the samsungs so far. Sharp aint to shabby either.

No vizios down here and bringing one from the states could be a hassle

Being a floor model really scared me away from the Toshiba, plus all the reviews I read on the Vizio were actually pretty good. Shit, for under a grand I got a 42 inch high def plasma. Can't beat that. Plus my 360 looks real nice with it.

O man you should of got the 46" Sony Bravia XBR2 best tv on the market its $3,299 but its AMAZING. seriously best lcd out easy.

O yeah Plasma is shit not because they dont look good but its like rolling the dice every single plasma you never know what they are going to do if theres a defect with the screen its non fixable even thought your warranty people will go through the motions and try and service it before compensating you and the whole process might take 6 months before you can enjoy a tv you shelled out 2,000 bucks for.
