This is where that odd little concept of video scouting must prove itself. Beyond the first 10 picks or so, the talent isn't as good as previous drafts, so the goal here is to find gems in the later rounds a la Miller in the 6th. If their video scouts can pick some good ones, then Quinn gets a feather in his hat. If not, then we really have to question him on this.

In retrospect the Biron trade worked out great. Had Miller gotten injured and they lost the Sens series with Conklin in net, forget about it. Regier would have been booed out of town. But as it is, Biron wasn't going to be a Sabres going into next year one way or the other. This way, Buffalo got it's highest pick in the draft for him. Props to Darcy for the trade deadline deals. Took a chance and it worked out. Plus, without Zubrus they probably wouldn't have made it past NY.

I could have sworn we were getting a compensatory 2nd rounder for not signing Kriukov.

Even though the Sabres don't have a first-round pick, I'm very excited for draft Saturday. I fully expect the team to make a trade to at least dump salary (that means Kotalik or Kalinin, in all likelihood). They may even be able to swing a deal for a top-four defenseman, like Colorado did last year for Jordan Leopold, or gritty, two-way forward.
