This lack of news is killing me. But as I think about it, the Sabres really can't be hurt by signing both if it doesn't take them over the cap. The reason I say this is because it will secure sellouts for all of next year and if it looked like the Sabres were not able to make a serious run with them (doubtful), both would remain hot trade commodities.
In Drury's case especially, it is not like you are bringing in someone, say from Edmonton, who might not perform elsewhere because of the change of cast. If both remain tradeable if you don't make a run (even at a high $$$) and you are likely to make a run with them anyway (which justifies the $$$$), then isn't signing them a no lose situation (assuming the cap goes up to allow it)?
St. Louis, for example, certainly could trade Vinnie today and be out of their cap crunch. So is it really that big of a problem? It seems the 2-3 mill players, say from Edmonton, are the bigger risks with this new cap.
