Ok so me and my friend were just chatting, she happens to be a girl, but an avid Sabres fan...the Ducks come 2nd to her since she is from Cali, but we started talkin about signing Drury and Briere, and i said that it doesnt make sense financially to sign both. Would i love it, absolutely, but it doesnt make sense, becuase we would run into retaining players in the future such as Campbell and Miller due to cap restraints. She went on to say we can get a better goaltender than Miller, because he doesnt win us games? Her excuse was if he is so good, then why was he ranked 18th out of the 32 starting goalies for GAA. Could it be that our defense is so offensive minded, and told to pinch, and take chances and get involved, we faced so many odd man rushes against us, that most couldnt be saved by an act of god...even tho he had quite possibly 2 of the most rediculous saves ever this year....so i ask you, does the woman or this guy (me) win the arguement, could we get a better goalie, yea maybe Brodeur or JSG, but thats about it...thoughts!?

miller is a good goalie on the verge of greatness. Your right, the system won't give him the best numbers, but one thing is clear he has a second gear that he kicks on during the playoffs which makes him a top goalie in my mind. He's good enought for us to win.

Your friend doesn't know a lot about goaltending, no offense, if she really thinks Ryan Miller is just average. He's a superstar, in my opinion, even though the regular-season stats don't show it.

To answer your question,Wojo: You win.

Put Miller in front of a defense that doesn't have as many D-men who are also involved in the offense, and watch his GAA go down and save percentage go up.

Oh,as for who she thinks would be better: Brodeur? No. Frakking. Way. He was far from all-world in the early part of the season. And he isn't getting any younger.

Giggy? Anaheim's not letting him go without a fight. IMO,the Ducks will keep him. Even if they have to overpay.

The following goalies are whom I'd rather have than Ryan Miller:

Roberto Luongo

Miikka Kiprusoff

On the fence:

Henrik Lundqvist (I can't in good conscience take him over Miller, who beat Lundy in a six-game series. It's very close, though.)

Tomas Vokoun

Miller needs to be in Buffalo for a long while.
He is one of the main reasons we lasted in the playoffs as long as we did.
Beef up the defensive play and revamp the current PP scheme and we will be on the right track.

You win. No question. Miller is in his SECOND year.

You win. Miller has shown he's capable of great things, and Sabregirl is right....its only his 2nd year...he's got nowhere to go but up.

He wins games. He's in only his second year. He wins games. GAA is a team stat. He wins games. He's backstopping the most offensive heavily schemed team in the league. Oh yeah...and he wins games.

when buffalo reverts to a more defense oriented team this season with teh key additions of odonnell and hannan, watch his save percentage increase and his gaa shrink to just over 2.4

oh and he will stop giving up that one soft goal that is soul crushing, I'm looking at you game 5 winning goal.

Stats are for losers...not saying your friend is a loser...but as you pointed out there is a reason why Miller is is ranked only 18th...and remember jsg did not win the cup the first time the Ducks were in the finals

Explain Roberto Luongo's career GAA then. He could be the best goalie in the league, but he played on a shitty team for so long that his GAA is distorted.

Don't you have an Alex Mogilny fan club meeting to attend or something?
