WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A night originally designated Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night turned deadly when the WWE Chairman’s limousine burst into a fiery explosion just moments after Mr. McMahon stepped into it. Permanently uprooting the world of sports-entertainment, the Chairman has been presumed dead in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Local authorities stated it was still too early to declare anything as fact, including exactly what caused the explosion, but they described the blast as an apparent “car bombing.” They also revealed that as of 11:30 p.m. EST, no body had been recovered from the incinerated wreckage.
Firefighters were quick to assess the scene, taping off sections of the parking lot to protect scores of onlookers – mostly our fans – from potential injury. Despite the intense heat and ubiquitous clouds of black smoke, countless people spilled out of the arena to get a closer look at the chaos they had just seen happen live on the TitanTron.
“By the time we arrived on the scene, the entire automobile was on fire,” explained a Wilkes-Barre firefighter on the scene. “It was like an inferno, and our guys were doing whatever they could to contain it as quickly as possible. In my 27 years with the fire department, I’ve never seen anything like that.”
The emblazoned limousine was engulfed by flames that reached skyward at estimated heights of more than 50 feet. The sight of the charred debris led to speculation that there was no conceivable way anyone could have escaped from the limo alive. Early assessments from local firefighters and police officers sent a similar feeling regarding the probability of the Chairman’s survival.
“We’re doing our best to respect the McMahon family and the fans of WWE,” the firefighter said. “However, with that said, we have not found anything – there hasn’t been confirmation that Mr. McMahon’s body was extracted from the limo.”
As the physical body of Mr. McMahon remains to be uncovered, perhaps the most perplexing piece to this puzzle is the Chairman’s uncanny, almost clairvoyant premonition of tonight’s grim events. Over the last few weeks on WWE programming, the swaggering, well-off billionaire seemed to unravel right before the eyes of millions. Speaking of a threatening presence that lurked in his foreseeable future, Mr. McMahon even cited the looming of a “black cloud” last week – a cloud very similar to the post-combustive smoke that billowed above his limousine tonight.
Was this evening an eerie prophecy fulfilled for Mr. McMahon, given his recent premonitions? Or was it simply a fateful execution of coincidence? The ominous reality is that what was brushed off as incoherent ramblings of a broken man and former ECW World Champion actually may have proven to be an exercising of a recently discovered sixth sense.
Sources say given the nature of the apparent car bombing, federal authorities may be called in for a more thorough investigation that would supersede local Pennsylvania authorities.
Check back with WWE.com as we continue to follow developments in the most shocking incident in sports-entertainment history.

Someone who was at the show had this to say about the whole thing to the Pro Wrestling Torch:
The explosion was actually filmed Sunday night at the arena;they then brought out a fake limo and blew THAT one up so the live crowd would think it was happening live.
The live crowd was said to be speechless when the limo blew up-and one of the local news outlets reported that it had received hundreds of calls from WWE fans asking it was real;they were told it wasn't and was only for storyline purposes. (Sorry,I can't pin down the exact outlet-he never said WHICH one and I can't find the story anywhere.)
Another mentioned that, because of how the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza is set up(on a hill or a hillside),those leaving the arena could see the fire being put out.
And,what a surprise, people are PISSED. Just a sampling of the reaction:
"The envelope has been pushed to the limit once and for all."
"The only thing that was 'murdered' was any hope that WWE(would become a decent wrestling organization)."(He also noted that McMahon isn't dead.) (That reviewer gave it a 0 out of 10.)
"Does Vince think that depicting a murder or attempted murder(since the scene was portrayed as real)is going to draw more people to his product?"
(BTW,there's a Buffalo reviewer in the mix: he's in Raw Reax 2.)
Wade Keller's take: "WWE owes it to viewers to be sure the Vince McMahon limo explosion has a realistic and logical explanation, rather than it just turning out to be a hotshot reaction to 'The Sopranos' controversial conclusion." Agreed, but as I said earlier,Vince is no David Chase. Far from it.

Your comparing apples to oranges. UFC is real fighting, unknowing outcomes. WWE is a soap opera for dudes. Compare UFC to another MMA and compare WWE to TNA not to each other that's just dumb.

wwe fans appearantly have short memories, this isnt the 1st time they've tried this sort of shocking angle.
back in the attitude era brian pillman pulled a gun on steve austin and actually shot at him. it was sort of believable because pillman was a lunatic, it made the angle work.
anyway i think this angle is a prelude to a major nemesis making a return(on some level).....maybe bret hart???
or maybe(not sure what his contract situation is) an angle to bring sting in???

it was totally fake. any moron would know that. first sign of this was the fact that the limo had no back window. it was covered in the white cloth that covers the rest of the back window. when i saw that i knew something weird was going to happen because i have never seen a limo with the back window totally covered. look for it on youtube and look at the back window. this is just another stupid ploy by the wwe to try and get people talking about it. the wwe is a soap opera for men...or should i say boys.. i dont watch it, but i happened to watch it last night due to the fact there was nothing else on.

i cant see them using an angle like this to bring someone back. its to serious. i dunno if anyone has been to wwe.com latly but there's a lot(two words) of different stories on this. like the corperate building flyin the WWE flag at half staff and like fire fighting stories. you cant really half ass this kind of angle but thats alittle to serious for me

Dude calm down...it is a soap opera like any other but unlike others it is "live"...what do morals have to do with a story line? So does that mean TV shows like the Sopranos, OZ, The Wire, or any other show where someone was killed off is any different? Just because some people are stupid enough to think it is real doesn't mean it is it just means that the program does a good job, in projecting fiction into reality.

Such a "stupid ploy to get people talking" that it has worked... We've devoted an entire thread to it now... :) Not to mention the fact that all the people who "don't watch wrestling" are talking about it too...
Vince got exactly what he wanted out of it... To get people talking. Even if you're saying it's "stupid" or "dumb" you're still talking about it. Remember, bad publicity is better than no publicity. :)

Did anyone catch ECW last night? That is where it went too far for me. They rang the ring bell 10 times for Vince. To me that is direspectful to all of the wrestlers that have died for real. It would be real cool for an old nemesis to come back, but I would doubt it is Brett Hart, at least as a wrestler anyway. He did have that stroke a while back.

as far as this angle being too serious, forget it. these are the same people that had mae young(a 70 yr old lady) give birth to a hand. believe me there are no lines vince wont cross. remember val venis had his penis chopped off at one point.

Wrong. I storyline where Vince and his daughter Steph were involved in a incestual relationship was brought up and fought for. Both sides spent a while deliberating and eventually shot it down. So that's the apparent line.

It didn't even look realisitc. All of a sudden you had no announcers and it was all quiet as he walked outside. Then once the limo blew up you didn't even get an "Oh my god" from Jim Ross or anything. It was just stupid and it's a horrible angle.
I just happened to catch the last five minutes of it or so. I just shook my head.

And ECW on Tuesday night was even worse.
Doing the 10 bell salute for a FAKE death? I'm sure Owen Hart,Eddie Guerrero, etc. are thinking "What, were our salutes worth nothing?"
Oh,yeah, one more thing....how the hell is the ECW title going to be defended now that Lashley had to give up the belt when he was drafted to Raw? Well, they never told us.
EVERY one of the PW Torch's columnists ripped the ECW Tuesday show to shreds. No one gave it a grade that was higher than 1 out of 10.

Well since they didn't even stop the Over the Egde ppv when they knew Owen had died right in the middle of the ring, I doubt Owen is looking down with a shocked look on his face!
That being said I think Marty Janette did it because Vince has fired him so many times!:)

jh: Trust me,the fans aren't stupid. No one's buying this storyline. (No one with half a brain, that is.) Not the live fans in Philly a few nights ago. Not those venting their spleens on comments(as your story notes). This storyline will fall flat on its face, and the payoff will suck-because they don't know how to do it.(Remember the "who ran down Stone Cold?" story?) BELIEVE IT!

Yes, their rating are still high. Last weeks cable rating placed the 2nd only behind the finally of teh Sopranos. Vince must stil know what he is doing.
