If you ever need to get your music off of your iPod get iDump (http://www.codershole.com/idump.php?id=lp8m69do7npmeljf34viub14n4). I found that to be handy when I dropped a hard drive on my PC. :niterider

I love my iPod. The quality of the sound simply can't be beat; it's an excellent device.

If you haven't done so already, I'd get new headphones/earphones. The ipod deserves a better phone than the earpiece that came with it. The Sennheiser PX100 or Koss PortaPro are good light portable headphones I recommend.
For best sound, I download songs using Apple Lossless. Its a bigger file than an MP3 but its not a big deal when you have a 80gb.

Yeah...coaches show is great for a drive to work...
And the best way to build your music collection for your ipod is your public library....especially if it is networked with other libraries....
Here I can go online and request CD's and when the arrive at my local branch i pick them up and use them for free....i can take out 40 at a time for 2 weeks...
You'll have the ****er filled up in no time,

I find the V0 encoding is the best for mp3's its allmost like listening to a flac file

i feel out of place. i bought a zune and IMO i would never trade it for an iPod. the screen is bigger for movies, the wi-fi is cool even though its limited and i just torrent all my music so i get complete discograpys so fillin it with stuff aint a problem either.

I've seen the Zune and it rocks as well. Its a tad bigger but cool as hell. I guess the Ipod's just more popular

I never had a ipod I had a dell dj 20 gig model and really didnt use it that much. It couldn't play videos just music and didn't do color. I got in last month on The Great Ipod Clearance at Fye. I picked up a old school 60gb model for 382.00 and they had a 200 dollar MIR so 182 for this Ipod and I love it.

i dont think i've ever used the DJ. i think thT came out before the iPod. i agree though the iPod caught like wildfire. it was the only one of its kind when it came out and they kept makin new models that were smaller, had color screens and could play videos.

And another sucker falls prey to the Bose PR hype monster for the tune of $300 big ones. You got to stick your face up right up to it in order to hear any stereo separation.

something better out there for an ipod? considering the compact size of the mofo. and the ease of use. and the quality of the sound ("stereo separation" notwithstanding).
yeah... i didn't think so.

Well, can't argue with a man's personal opinion.
But there are others who differ with your opinion and for $200 bucks less to boot. ILounge is an excellent resource for reviews on ipod accessories.

Are the systems completely identical sonically? There was only one situation in which we noticed a more than trivial difference, and that was at each system’s peak volume. Bose lets you turn the SoundDock up to a more than room-filling point, creating obvious distortion, but as a result, SoundDock can get a little - and we mean little - louder than iVoice. Athena’s design stops one step shy of the audible distortion level, which frankly we tend to prefer. On an even less important note, very careful listeners may hear a hair more bass on SoundDock, but again, the difference is small enough that we’d be shocked if average users heard it at all.

i found the soundock much sweeter on low volumes. and i listen to it during the early morning coffee hours. seemed to fill the room much better. especially w/ jazz and joni mitchell.
i thought the altec did better at louder volumes than the soundock. if i was getting it for camping, working in the garage, or on the back patio - i would go with that one. battery powered is handy, of course.
didn't like the ivoice at all.
