Do they really do it? I mean, we heard about how its a rights violation, and that they are trying to prevent international terrorism because its a big threat to our homeland security....

There have been a few questionable "busts" ...most recently the JFK thing.

Don't you think, that if they were monitoring a thoroughly as they say, and that if international terrorism was a big threat, that there would be more, large scale, higher profile, more threatening plots being foiled.....

For the amount of concessions the American people are asked to make in the area of privacy, and the amount of money being spent, I think there should be a bigger return on our investment.....

OMG. I guarantee you that your email, phone calls, and internet are filtered through NSA supercomputers every single time looking for keywords or phrases. They have been caught doing it on a population-wide scale!!!

I've posted several articles on this and several federal lawsuits are in action, including one in the 6th circuit court where the judge slammed Bush and the NSA. Big brother lost but is appealing.

If this is so then how come they haven't captured or thwarted more serious threats? I mean international and home grown terrorism is a major threat to the american way of life, correct?

Court documents show that they have installed intercept hardware in most telecommunications hubs and internet relays. Just about everyone's communications get siphoned off by the NSA.
