How much ice time did he have? Less than 5 minutes and some of it, he had to be in because Soupy was in the box. Now for game 5, please put in Paetsch. If were giving one defensemen less than 5 mins, then put in Paestch and see what he can do on the PP and let him play for that 5 mins. Its a win win situation.

Yeah, Shine, I think we saw the end of Kalinin's season tonight. Paetsch will play on Saturday; he has to.

And I was a little puzzled at Spacek's lack of ice time. I really liked his game tonight, even though there was very little of it -- fewer than eight minutes for him.

Shortened the bench. Reminded me of Travel Hockey. Somebody's mom is gonna be pissed!

LOL! Excellent analogy.

Jaro's mom is probably going to call Lindy at 2 a.m., screaming.

Would have been less than that if we didn't get into penalty trouble in the 3rd and he had to take a shift there.

What was Vanek's icetime?

Max was scratched for less. A lot less.

I'm pretty sure it was under ten minutes.

kalinin: 4 :23 of ice time.

Campbell had 29+ Minutes, Tallinder 27. Welcome to last year Thomas Vanek w/ 8:21 of playing time. Jaroslob had 8:22. Good thing we have 2 days between games

I'm not sure why Lindy cut Vanek's icetime tonight, through most of this series he's been our best forward. But can't argue with success and we finally had some. If Zubrus can't go on Saturday that will make things interesting. Do we play Paetsch as a forward or do we dress Stafford?

Stafford. We play Paetsch at defense, in place of Dmitri Calamity.

Yeah, I think it's pretty obvious you have to play Pasty at this point. Isn't it?

Zoob's got what sounds like a tender muscle in the legs (interview with Hamilton says he was trying to "stretch it out" on every TV timeout...). I think if he can't go full speed you put in Stafford (obviously).

But given 2 days off, Zoobie will play. :)

Maybe all of you Kalinin fan club members will take notice and realize that this guy, who has so many physical tools, has a serious problem when it comes to mistake free hockey. And that's what you need in the playoffs. Sure, I guess a few missed pucks at the point, or maybe getting caught out of position once or twice a game, or maybe coughing the puck up in your own zone once or twice a game doesn't seem like that big of a deal during the regular season. You look at the rest of his game and you think that somehow, it makes up for all of the mistakes. Well in the playoffs, series' are lost because of those types of situations. Ruff's always been patient with him.......But now is not the time to be patient. When the season was on the line, Kalinin was the one who got benched. That makes him more than just a whipping boy. That makes him a goat.

Interesting. Last week, one of my colleagues and I were talking at our school's prom (when the boys lost in 2OT). When I mentioned the frustration I was feeling, he said "You know why they're losing? Ruff rolls four lines. In the playoffs, he has to start shortening his bench." He may have been right, especially with Kalinin. Hopefully it's not too late a decision.

As for Paestch, I was one of the guy loathe to put him in. With Kalinin benched, I'm beginning to agree with a lot of you supporting him to be put in, if only for the PP. If Hank, Toni, and Soupy are going to get most of the minutes anyways, why not?

Pax.

Interesting point Igster.

Rolling 4 lines is a great idea IF you have enough talent on all 4. We have to match up better, I guess. Can't just roll 4 and end up with our 4th on Alfie/Spezza/Heater.... Where the **** where they last night, anyway? :)

Rifle Says: Kalinan should not only be benched for his performance he should be deported. End of story.

Zubrus not being able to play was probably a big factor in Max and Vanek's ice time. I imagine the other factor was their abysmal performance in their own end on Ottawa's goal.

I'd love to see Nate play for Kalinin.. he hasn't played well since the Isles... Vanek is gonna have to step it up a little more if Zub can't go on saturday and bring some heat. It would be nice to see Staff back in there, but not if we're taking out Zub... not like we have a choice if he is hurt... maybe this is what we needed to get back in this thing.

I can't see why Ruff would pass over Stafford to play Paille. They were talking on the radio today like that was a possibilty if Zubrus is out for game 5. That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Paetsch should play over Kalinin. He won't play fewer minutes, and he might even generate a few more chances from the point on the powerplay.

I'd love to see Paetsch in there, though I'm not holding my breath. As for Paille, I think he's a slightly more reliable two-way player/penalty killer, which may be why he'd get consideration. I think the radio chatter came from the fact that when Zubrus couldn't practice on Tuesday, Paille filled his spot on that line. I wouldn't read too much into it.

That could be it....But he's definitely not more reliable offensively than Stafford. This team killed 5 penalties without Zubrus. I'd rather see Stafford for his goal scoring touch.
