NHL to add HD zoom over nets

The NHL wants to purchase high-definition cameras to be fixed above the nets in all arenas. The networks will install pencil eraser-sized cameras in the corners of nets for the conference and Cup finals.

Totally. At least the league is trying to address the problem by having more views/angles. With all of the technology today, we shouldn't have one camera angle to review a goal...
Go Sabres

Shanahan knows how to get things done. I think he made this exact suggestion after game 4.

I hope they get them in time, it would be awesome for reviews and it's something that will help out the NHL get more goal calls correct

The Buffalo Fan in me says somehow the Sabres end up getting hosed the other way with this one.
Let's Go Buffalo!

I just want to see about a dozen high def cameras placed all over the net - above, below, whatever. The more the better. They're cheap as dirt for a $2B industry.

This is long overdue. I'm glad to see that the NHL finally wants to be taken seriously.

Who's paying for that? Ticket prices going up or can the incompetent refs take a cut in their pay perhaps?

What about making the goal line contain sensors that are primed to detect sensors in the puck. Can't see the puck? That's okay, because the sensors can tell if it went over or not.

I was thinking the same thing, like in tennis.

Remember who was the person here who said they needed them first ;)

Seriously, they shouldn't even leave it up to cameras. They should have RFID tags on the edges of the puck that give its exact location . . .

Maybe they could somehow work FOX'S glowing puck technology into figuring out if a goal counts. Remember how much that was going to help the NHL.
I'm all for the HD camera's, but with our luck it will help Ottawa in a controversial goal this series.

True, but if they're getting calls right for both teams that's fine with me. I don't want to win a series based on a call that was controversial. I don't want anything tainting this thing. Dallas fan still has to listen to the "No Goal" retort every time they talk about their cup in '99. I don't want any asterisks, bullets, crazy legendary miracle reverse screw-job mojo attached to our run here. I want the first one to be nothing but pure cup glory, won through undisputed dominance.

Yes, there must be a way to implement a puck detection system in the net. I just want the RIGHT call made and this is the only true way to do this. Yes, it takes out the human element of officiating but who cares. I want the right call.
