Intel just had a huge drop in prices so I took advantage of it and picked up an e6600 dual core for $234. I put the e4300 in a build for someone at $130 so not to bad money wise. First one was a dud so I RMAed it but the second is a honey. Running at 3.6GHz (stock is 2.4GHz) at 1.52v Vcore. 50% over stock and I know it can go higher.

Yes, it is a great chip. e6600, Conroe core, 2.4GHz, 32KB+32KB L1 cache, 4MB shared L2 cache, 1.35v max. Ran SuperPi to 1M at 14.628 seconds. As a comparison, my Opteron 165 at 3168MHz ran S-Pi to 1M in 27.561 seconds.

Yeah they have. An amazing chip for $230. If you ever thought about building this is a really great time to take the plunge. DDR2 is dirt cheap, CPU prices are beyond dirt cheap and there are some mature mobos that kick ass for $185.

DDR2 dirt cheap?

My 4 GB of Corsair Dominator 800 MHz was $500.

Dirt cheap?

Well yeah... if you consider that a normal person only needs 1/4 of that the price becomes more reasonable. :niterider

Pete-
That Dominator is the best of the best. If you look you can get 4GB of Corsair XMS 6400 RAM with 44412 2T for $218 after rebate (and Corsair rebates actually arrive) Check it out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034

That is some really good RAM with tight timings for less than waht DDR used to cost for 2GB.

I'm spoiled. With such high caliber RAM and 4 GB of it, nothing makes my PC barf. But on other people's machines I get frustrated real quick. My machine at work drives me nuts.
