This is based off the value board at Pro Football Weekly (http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDraft/Draft+Extras/2007/Value042407.htm). I decided to take a look at where players were valued here and where the Bills actually took them.

They break it down into early middle and late in each round, so I guess I would call Top 10 Early, 11-22 Middle, Last 10 Late. Also, PFA stands for "Priority Free Agents," as in they didn't think the player would be drafted, but they would be in big demand after the draft.

I'll color code too:
"Reach"
"Steal"
"About Right"

Marshawn Lynch Taken: 1B...Projected: 1B
Paul Posluszny Taken: 2A...Projected: 1C
Trent Edwards Taken: 3C...Projected: 2A
Dwayne Wright Taken: 4B...Projected: 5B
John Wendling Taken: 6B...Projected: 4C
Derek Schouman Taken: 7B...Projected 7A
C.J. Ah You Taken: 7C...Projected PFA

So, at least according to this, the Bills got about right value for Lynch, Poz, and both 7th rounders. Ah You was projected to not be drafted, but still was projected to be in high demand...so I would say using the second 7th rounder on him isn't a bad, just to make sure he doesn't get to undrafted free agency.

Also according to this, Dwayne Wright was a reach by a full round...but if you think about it, Wright might have been a guy the Bills really wanted, and they weren't about to get him if they waited till Round 6 (since they had no fifth rounder).

As for Trent Edwards and John Wendling...those two guys aren't only steals, but apparently are HUGE steals. Edwards is the third rated QB on their board.

Just thought I'd put this out there, pretty interesting stuff.

I'm fine with the Wright pick. Poz and Edwards were super steals and I feel good about the Welding pick.

Ah You is a flop waiting to happen.

do you think Wendling could play any corner?

do you think Wendling could play any corner?

No. Not sure why people think he's a 4-3 LB either. He has played Safety his whole college career, and done well at that. He put on weight (10+ lbs) to be a better SS, but can play both FS and SS. He's versital, but not that versital.

He'll provide depth at 2 positions and is a great athlete so he's sure to be of value on special teams.

I would say statement holds true for most 7th round picks.

In a pinch Yes

Full Time No

I think people are underestimating this selection already. This kid is a heck of an athlete based on his combine numbers and i'm not going to be shocked if he pushes Ko this year or next. Either way he will be a special team asset from day one

I wish I could find the thread it was in...but I KNOW someone here brought up Wendling as a guy the Bills should consider with a Day 1 pick.

I

Ah You is a flop waiting to happen.

a late seventh round pick can not "flop"

they compete for a roster spot..even if they don't make it, its hardly a flop

that was me, I love this kid, I think buffalo got another ko simpson type player

a HUGE steal was antonio pittman to NO, they may have gotten the steal of the draft.

I'm still fighting over the poz pick a little in that you could have kept that first 3rd and gotten durant or harris at 43. poz if he returns to junior year form will be a steal at 34.

He's a Bill now so does it really matter? Marv had him rated at the top with the 2 other players so the Bills got great value from their board :FBH:

at the end of the day the Bills got two guys we thought they could've selected at #12...so all in all i believe it was a steal. Possibly right up there with the Browns getting Thomas and Quinn

The Browns also handed Dallas their #2 pick and #1 next year. If they tank it the Cowboys will be doing square dances all over the star at midfield.

Reaches:

Ginn was a slight reach... was projected in the mid first. Pre-injury concerns, he was top 10... him being hurt dropped his value a little. Adam Scheftner of NFLN also reported that Houston was going to take Ginn at 10.

I would have loved to trade down and grab him... but it couldnt be done. They certainly tried as they took up every second of their 15 min.

I thought Griffen was a little of a reach. I LOVE him as a player... but thought he was more of a value in the 20s.

Kevin Kolb in the high 2nd round? I also thought this was a reach...

Steals:

Alan Branch in Rd 2...

Mike Walker in Rd 3... (not in terms of where he was projected... but in terms of the player he will be for only a 3rd rounder.)

Kalil. Would have never thought he would fall to 59...

the reach/steal thing is the worst thing about the draft. you won't really know who was what for about three years
