View Full Version : Lorentz and Jeanerette last night...

At the beginning of the game, Lorentz made a crack that they couldn't see the play on the ice because the Islander management stuck them in a corner of the press box and all they had to look at was the tv feed on the monitor.
I can't remember what they were cracking a joke about...something about being next to balloons or something and RJ said he'll show them a thing or two about flying them.
Anybody remember that?
Also Lorentz made a comment that there were 4 TV feeds from the game - what were they?
I assumed Versus, MSG and CBC...which one is the last? Why didn't they just share the feed and have different commentators call the game?

I wish I knew I have had to watch the Versus broadcast each game where I am. no big deal though, I did get to see it in HD last night. I didnt even know Rick and Jim were doing the game still. I do know that in HD there was no question the Vanek scored even before they showed the replay.

yup, my brooklyn-ass had to watch the FSNY feed...
stupid DIRECTV BLACKOUT!!! I hadn't been able to watch any of the Sabres or Ranger games on the dish since i purchased it and CenterIce about a month ago.
it really sucks being in this area... cause at any given time i might not be able to see NJ, NYR or NYI... cause of the agreement DTV has with NHL / Cable comapanies...
anyway, at least i got to watch it in HD last night, but boy do those NYI commenators suck. they were very embarrassed about the throwing of bottles, etc..
also were saying "i dont see any possible way they can allow that as a goal. it has to be inconclussive..." on the TV goal.

Was it just me, or where the VS announcers using their kneepads to make the Isle fans and players happy last (Mon) night?
My goodness, they were saying how the Isle's "just dominated" the first period. Ahh, it was nine SOG for us and 10 for the Isle. Yeah, that's domination...pffhhttt.
I'm all about calling it like it was, but they were just all up on the Isle butts going on and on about their good plays, fawning over their shots and such.
If I hear, "the Sabres survived that one" the next time NY has a shot, or two, on net or spend more than 45 seconds in our end, if that, I'm gonna hurl.
Rick and Jim are Buffalo announcers, but they play it pretty fair in regards to being homers. The VS announcers need to realize some professionalism and bias in calling these games. After the Sabres victory, they almost sound defeated themselves. Hmm, maybe - because they were all about the Isles - they were, too.
Was it just me?!

I saw the game on VS also. I share your opinion exactly, especially how they dominated first period and how they kept saying, we 'escaped that one'....

Believe me, Versus has been sucking up to us all year. Remember, they have to sell the series as one that is exciting and close, so that people other than Sabre/Isles fans watch it.

Though I didn't have the Versus telecast, I believe the play-by-play man was the Carolina Hurricanes' guy. Obviously, then, he has an anti-Sabres bias. I recall him announcing Sabres-Flyers in February and acting like Philadelphia was building a dynasty just because it had Jeff Carter and Scottie Upshall. It was sickening.

i am with you boys on this. No doubt that Carolina announcer and Eddy O (i think, right) were just up the isles but. now i dont care if they dont like buffalo or want to root for a good series, but my goodness it is annoying to listen to. every penalty on buffalo they were like good call and there should be more and every penalty on the isles they had a problem with.
They were acting like Islander fans.

It's getting pretty goddamn irritating that everybody else gets to watch the Sabres in HD except us.

i didnt see it, but in regaurds to rick and jim...they are rediculous homers, lol. rick's said it himself in the past. but thats ok because he's a BUFFALO announcer, and not a national one. if the VS guys were as bad as you say, that just sucks.

And, to make it worse, it was the Hurricanes announcer. He's just mad he's not playing golf like his team is right now. That hair-do comes from what era anyhow? I don't think they were even that bad in the 70's, or 80's...

I live in the city as well . . . . I bought CenterIce the last week of the season to make sure that I was going to see the games. What a rip!
Overall I'd say that the FSNY announcers wern't too bad, with the exception of Vanek's goal. They were outraged by the crap on the ice, and were laying into "lazy" plays by both sides.

I didn't get it in HD either.... Time Warner is too cheap to pick up any HD channels outside of NBC ABC and CBS. God i hate them.

To their credit I guess, they do have about 20 HD channels. Can't believe I just gave them dummies credit.

No doubt. All the live in-game interviews (especially not with players or coaches) are extremely irritating.

Pretty sure the versus announcers were calling Vaneks goal good after watching the replays, and they also said DP got away with one on the Briere penalty, so they were'nt totally up the Isles ass. They do praise DP a bit too much for my taste, but other than that they did'nt bother me too much. Some of you guys are a bit too sensitive.

VS did get the Vanek goal right, which was good, but I remember yelling at the TV when we were up 2-1 and the VS announcer said we were "showing signs of life." Uhh, yeah, we were up 2-1... I'd say that's pretty "alive," you know?
Seeing it in HD was nice - I get VS here in Philadelphia, and the HDNet picked it up -but the voice synch was off, so I watched the regular feed during the intermissions.
Also, Rick and Jim are now blogging for MSG. Here's Rick (http://blogs.msg.com/rick_jeanneret/) and here's Jim (http://blogs.msg.com/jim_lorentz/).
