We really got some gifts tonight. The 5 on 3 in the second, the non call on Zuburus when he hooked Campoli and the call on the iles at the end of the game all went our way.

Don't forget about the review that also went our way. I can see that not being called a goal some nights.

Don't get me wrong. I will take it. We have been on the other side often enough. I just don't want it to mask the fact that we are not playing at our best. The iles are playing tough and we are in for some tough games against these guys.

its a tight series right now, the calls went the sabres way tonight but they have had their fair share the other way too.

That coulda been deadly at the end if its 6 on 5 instead of 5 on 5... but it was a penalty, but i don't know if that shoulda been called that late in the playoff game... hell, its for us, it needed to be called... great job refs. Mostly they let em play tonight. Thats what I like in a ref.

Yeah I'm not so sure the refs were on our side as much as at least they called stuff that should be called. The holding on Zubrus behind our net was weak,as was the interference call on Brier for supposedly interfering with Dipietro. Even the versus announcers thought DP got a gift there. I believe there was a missed high sticking against Max also.
But overall I'll definitely take it. If they're all called this close to fair I'll be happy.

Despite the whining on SCVFTVN (Versus) the last penalty was a penalty. They pulled Lydman's foot off the ice with a stick, and he fell down as a result. Maybe those tools should actually watch the tape. After watching that wrestling match on Saturday, the I-yulls have nothing to bitch about. That donut eating slob Koharski allowed everything but assault and battery Saturday. BTW, Lindy on Saturday completely deflected any talk about officiating as irrelevant and held Max accountable on that joke-assed penalty that led to the winning PP goal. That was far less a penalty than anything that happened tonight. All Nolan did tonight after the game was whine about it. Accountability vs whining...

If its a penalty it should be called. Period. It makes me sick when the refs swallow their whistles cuz its late in a game. And I thought that last one was a penalty.Whoever those refs were , I would'nt mind having them a whole lot more.

cool, but did they did miss some the other way too guys. Remember the hit from connolly to the back of yashin?

I love it though, when the refs give our team a break its "they let the boys play". when it goes the other way it's "what are this idiots doing".

It's just the nature of fans, good stuff. We are all the same for the most part.

We were in for tough games anyway. You don't see too many blowouts in the playoffs. I won't complain about getting the calls tonight, because we definitely didn't get them on Saturday.

If that call was made against buffalo in the same situation, people would be crapping bricks right now... Good post. For once, we got some calls our way, and we can't whine. Remember this next time someone wants bitch about the refs.

We get the win and deserve it.
The goal call was correct when they finally got the proper angle.
Max did draw the 2 penalties in no way was that a gift.
Zubby call it if you want but that guy was going down (diving) anyway.

Very good point about the difference between the way Ruff and Nolan handled it.. Nolan will work up the Islanders into a blaming other people fury while Ruff gets the Sabres to actually make a meaningful difference in the way they preform on the ice.

No sympathy whatsoever. We've seen plenty go against us over the years.

They also missed the hit from behind on Yashin by Connolly. I can't blame the fans for being upset at the end of the game after that call on Robitaille. It was a bad call, but combine that with the other calls tonight, and the amount of time left, and the score. Damn, sucks to be them.

The Zubrus penalty, I called when I was at work. After the Sabres got the extended 5 on 3, I knew the next penalty was going to the Sabres.

duff, Yashin should have had his scuba gear on for that. You've played the game right? You know what that was.

They also missed the hit from behind on Yashin by Connolly.

See above. If all you do if listen to the announcers, you talk about that. From ice level, you know what the score was.

Yes, we benefited from those calls. What concerns me is that the reffing has been pretty dismal save Game 1. What's worse is that the inconsistencies are being done by the veteran referees. I wonder what Bettman was thinking, seeing that he was at the game tonight.

Pax.

I thought the reffing on both sides was horribly inconsistent.

Heh...I heard on WGR on the drive in that Nolan still doesn't believe the Vanek goal went in.

The reffing is horrible, how are the players supposed to get any feel for the game. One game the ref is calling all the ticky tacky bullshit, the next game nothing. You would think come playoff time, that these refs are supposed to be the best of the best. The league needs to get these guys in a room BEFORE the playoffs start, and get them all on the same page. I think it would make for much better games if the players know thier is at least some semblence of a universal standard being applied to each game.
