I can understand throwing stuff out onto the ice. Although it is rude and stupid, I could see Sabres fans doing it. What really jerks my chain is the fact that Rick and Jim said that during a moment of silence for the students at virginia tech, the fans were being rude and obnoxious, as well as during the national anthem. Just shows the classless ness of new york (city).

Thats just low. Being in my location I had the Vs. feed and they didn't mention this (moment of silence ect. or I missed it) but thats just stupid. How would you feel if your kid was in that. Being a college kid i couldn't imagine that happening here or what to do if it did. Thats even stupider (if thats a word) than our fans signing nah nah... goodbye at the end of game 1.

I go to VT. And just the fact that they held the moment of silence at the game (and at the TB-NJ game) was pretty awesome, but I did hear the *******s.

If they even had any idea how much people are grieving today over this loss... Especially people who were so closely affiliated with a horrible community tragedy in 9/11... and the one thing I could do to try to forget about this bullshit was have a few beers and watch the Sabres, but they can't even respect a moment of silence? I hope we pound those ****s into the ground...

The thing that pisses me off the most is after 9/11 everybody in this country freaking united after what happened in NYC, and this is how kindness gets repaid from those douches in NYC.As you can read in this post, we have somebody here who goes to VT, how do you think it makes him feel when he hears yelling during a moment of silence for his fellow hokies that lost their life?

I agree completely. A certain number of Sabres fans can be drunk *******s at games, but nothing that classless. I'd like to think that if this game was in Buffalo, and some people were shouting disrespectful shit during that moment of silence, that someone next to them would pop em in the jaw. I definitely would.

And the throwing stuff? Unexcusable. Scream and whine all you want about the refing. Lord knows we've all done it at one point or another. Chant "bullshit", whatever. But under no circumstances should you be throwing shit onto the ice. Aside from the fact that you're just as likely to hit YOUR OWN ****ING TEAM than you are the refs or the Sabres, you're even more likely to hit one of YOUR OWN ****ING FANS.

The stuff I saw tonight (and that's just on TV) was worse than when Philly fans cheered as Mike Irvin lay unconscious on the ground. I used to like the Islanders quite a bit better than the Rangers...thanks to the good people in Long Island, now I hope the Rangers stick it in their ass every single game they play against each other.

If I played on the Islanders, I'd be downright ashamed of my fans tonight.

When I saw what was happening, the bottles and trash, a worker was pushing a wheelbarrow full of shit on the ice, I texted my bro in law of how classless those people were. When Jim and Rick spoke about the idiots disrespecting the moment of silence, I was shocked! I knew that there was one dead and one injury early on and then eventually I checked the update and it was much worse. I feel terrible! Prez Hefner at my college dropped an Email to everybody. son of a bitch.

To answer many of your questions. No I wasn't anywhere near the buildings. My poor work ethic finally payed off for me and I didn't go to class which was right next to the building everyone got shot in. That video that everyone saw on CNN with the gunshots... That would have pretty much been my view of the whole thing had I gone to class...

I know a few people who have been hurt. Some worse than others. Some in more traumatic experiences than others. Some extremely graphic and disturbing... If anyone really wants to know you can PM me but I'm not going to burden anyone on here.

Terrible day, but I love the Sabres. I even got my roommates into the game tonight and it seemed we all forgot about this shit for just a little while which was amazing. Playoff hockey at its best and most meaningful.

I don't know what was said, but it just shows the little respect people have for anything. I don't know any victims of the tragedy, but I do know a few people that go there that I went to middle school with when I lived in VA, so this hits close to home for me.
Very sad and classless move by the Isles fans. This is not indicative of everyone that lives down there I'm sure.

I was at the game. Let me enumerate the level of Islanders fans' classlessness.

During the VT moment of silence, TONS of people were shouting, with a loud "Rangers suck ****!" getting the biggest bit of laughter.

My belief is always to cheer for your team and not against the opposition. But Islanders' fans definitely did not share my view. The first goal of the game was accompanied by two fans behind me shouting "**** YOU! **** THE SABRES!" right into my ears. Thanks, guys. You stay classy.

Right before the 2nd intermission I went to the restroom. A 5'3, 110 pound guy decided to cut me in line. "Don't say nothin'", he said. "I'm a loose cannon." I'm 6'4, 200. I could have had a field day with this guy. But at the end of the day, it just made for a funny story. :D

A couple of scuffles broke out after the Islanders' penalty with about 1:10 remaining. Lots of beer thrown on Sabres fans. A security guard thought about escorting a perpetrator in my row, but when he realized how belligerent the guy was, he "thought better of it" and left. Way to do your job, guys.

The parking lot after the game was a field day. Lots of "**** YOU BUFFALO" chants. I was shoved out of the arena by some drunkard. An Islanders fan who looked to be around 13 shared my sentiments, though. "I'm sorry they're being such *******s".

That experience was worse than going to a Sabres-Flyers game. I love how Long Islanders live in prosperity but attempt to bring the tough-guy attitude as though they're from the Bronx. Nassau Coliseum needs way more security at the next game to handle these drunken fools.

With that said, it was sooo satisfying to see a Sabres' win tonight. The douchbaggery of Isles fans did nothing to dampen the spirits of the considerable Sabres contingent in the crowd.

I just got back from the game. The acoustics there were terrible and no one knew that they were attempting a moment of silence. The only reason I caught on is because I had been notified of the tragedy just before. Anyone else that had been traveling all day as I was may have had no idea about VT.

Also, before you place all the blame on LI, I will be honest and tell you guys that there was a group of 4 very rowdy sabres fans that may not have instigated all the yelling, but did nothing to stop it.

That is absolutely ridiculous the way people treated the sabres fans. There are some things you just dont do too opposing fans, a little heckling or taunting isnt that bad, i think were all guilty of that, you know nothing too serious, but once you draw that line where your cursing them out, throwing things at people, starting fights thats absolutely ridiculous. I cant believe how classless some people can be.

Dont get me wrong, i think that all of us here are die-hard fans, but we at least have some class, we wouldnt be throwing things on the ice or at opposing fans, or heckling during a tribute to kids who were senselessly killed today. Uggh that gets me mad.

My friend texted me from the game telling me that the people around him were yelling Sabres suck balls and various mature things. He then had a fight not 10 minutes into the game. A huge brawl in the section next to him where some Isles fans jumped some Sabres fans. He said he didn't notice the Sabres fans taunting or anything.

I could see the disgust with the calls. But throwing mad beer bottles at the ice, at other fans etc? And their player shooting the puck right at the ref. Totally uncalled for.

We had poor calls in the 3rd during Game 2 and all we did was boo LOUDLY, stand up and scream and whistle. My friend took off his jersey when leaving for "fear of his life", and he's always lived on the Island and been a Sabres fan...

This might be one of the most shameful thing's I have heard in a long time. I remember going to game 3 of the Eastern finals last year in Raleigh and getting treated pretty badly by Canes fans. I was appalled then also by the people who spoke carelessly and chanted and were incessantly loud during our national anthem. This is completely disrespectful for these people to act like this, they should have all been escorted out one by one. If you don't have the decency to remain silent for our national anthem while our troops are being killed in every corner of the world or even for a moment of silence for the senseless loss of live at Virginia Tech, then you don't deserve to be there. How about a little dignity people, do you like making yourselves look like bafoons or what? Really people, didn't your parents teach you any better than that? Lastly, this girl RIGHT next to me in the library right now smells like pee!

Cornellian - good summary. I'll try and add to it. I was in Row A of section 119 (first row by the glass to the right of DiPietro in Period 1 and 3- at the corner of the zone). I heard the moment of silence announcement and two or three people got the 5 seconds of fame by spouting rude comments.

Basically a lot of white trash there. I did nothing other than cheer when the Sabres scored, but, had beer, beer bottles (plastic) and nuts thrown at me quite a few times. I caught and confronted one guy and he backed down and stopped throwing things. The bottles missed me but hit a girl next to me who was and Islanders fan and a photographer at the glass. One security guy started watching the section, but, the other one was more intent on watching the game. After the game one guy followed me and threatened to "stab me with the thing in his pocket."

I don't mind verbal taunting - I expect that wearing the jersey. But to get things thrown at me and threatened with a knife is a bit overboard. Thses fans do not deserve to see a win, so, thak God the Sabres won.
