i copied this from the other forum, it didnt fit in there...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------i love my mac, i really like my pocketpc, but cant use it right now. i have a 2003 pocketpc, i want to use with my mac, but don't know how.
I have crappy internet service, i am only allowed one computer to hook up to the internet, or i have to pay more money. my Mac is hooked up, and my pc is only used by the kids to play games on (windows XP service pack made it unable to use for anything else) I cannot download anything for my pocket pc because the mac is not compatible with it. i have bluetooth for everything mac, pocket pc, and pc. can i download files to my mac and install them on my pocket pc with just bluetooth or do i need activesync? if i buy pocketmac would that solve my problems, or would i still need to go through a windows computer to run and install the files to my pocket pc?

OK.
First mistake is owning a MAC.
Sell it. There is nothing in the hardware or software realm of third party vendors that support them.
You can buy a windows application layer for MAC that will support real (PC) software. But this WILL slow down your Mac.
That said.....
Unless it is a standard formatted file (jpg, mpg, gif, pdf) they are NOT compatible.
The service pack didn't screw anything up. You did. Like 90% of PC users so don't feel stupid. Sorry. PM me if you need help.
Want to transfer files between computers? Get a router, preferably a firewall router and send them via ethernet connection in your home. Again. PM me.

Pete is incorrect. New intel macs can run windows.

Does he have an intel MAC? They are ONLY compatible if the OS is written so that the API (application programming interface) is compatible with PC formats.
So, sukie. Same processor doesn't mean compatibility.

It's not an emulator like soft windows... Free ware bootcamp allows an authorized windows OS installation and you can chose Windows or Macs OS to boot.

IF he has an intel machine. But for a MAC OS he needs an emulator on top of the OS.
If Mac dumps the OS they'll become a HUGE player in the PC market.
The shame is that RISC machines are better than CISC. Mac dumping RISC technology shows that they've cried uncle to the PC market.

But that is if he wants to run windows,,, If he's trying to import data like word docs etc... he can do it with a flash drive.

i have a mac mini. i really like it, and now prefer it to my windows PC. all i did with the service pack for xp, was download it, i changed no (zero) settings on the PC, i'm not the only one who had this problem come up. i plan on reformatting that harddrive anyway, just not until i get some free time to mess with it.
My mac is the only computer in the house hooked to the internet. All computers are able to transfer files through bluetooth. All i want to be able to do is download programs to my pocket PC with my MAC. When i did so with my PC, i had to use activesync to install those files, i recently wiped out my pocketpc because i forgot to charge it, and all my programs are on my pc which is in basement. Although Activesync does not work on the MAC, there are a few programs that do, like “the missing sync” and “pocketmac”, i am on a very strict budget and these are out of my price range at the moment. I was just wondering if I had to buy one of these programs, or could I download the programs to the mac, transfer it to the pc with bluetooth, then install it with activesync to the pocket pc?

A USB flash drive?
i do have a usb flash drive that my daughter uses for school, but its not large enough for the programs, its only a little one she uses for pics and homework. and yes it does work on the mac, but her document programs become corrupted because of appleworks. that is the only thing i do no tlike about the apple software- appleworks stinks...

I have to bow out at this point. Word programs installed seemlessly with apple works for me. No corruption at all. As far as the other things you are trying to do... I am of no help since I rid myself of all that is PC.

how do you save word docs in appleworks, so they are usable by both? i cannot seem to find the right combo of file names or extensions, and usually have to save as a pdf file in order to work on a windows pc. my daughters school has windows, we have the mac...

I'm pretty sure thatyou can transfer files, via USB Flash from Mac to indows by dding the proper suffix to the Mac file. Examples are
.DOC for Microsoft Word, .XLS for Excel, .PPT for Powerpoint. Try that. It has been years, however, since I worked with a Mac so maybe I am full of sh##.

I don't use both... You may be able to save file as and pic a .doc extension... two sep versions of same doc.

There has to be some freware out there that can perform this simple function. Just google it and make sure you download from a reputable site.

Would you be sure that it was from the real vendor and didn't have a nice little surprise buried in it?

the files save to my mac with no problem, and look ok, but when you try to open them on a pc, they either do not open or are full of gibberish.
