elvin jones: coltrane's perfect drummer.

I read a Pete Towshend interview once where he said they recorded Keith Moon in the studio early in their career, before the drink and drugs took their toll, and then took the tape to a audio expert. The audio expert did a comparison and told them that this was impossible. It could not be a human playing drums because the beats were faster that a machine gun firing.
I also saw a Ringo Starr interview on Tom Snyder and Snyder was kissing Ringo's ass telling him he was the greatest drummer to ever live. Ringo looked to the sky and said "You hear that Keith". "Somewhere up there Keith Moon is laughing"
Rest In Peace, Keith. You are still missed and loved by many.

and now Mike Mangini, possibly the best drummer in this thread, yah I said it.

Described by Brian Eno as "perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived' he is largely unknown by the rock/pop oriented public. Also he does not wallow in long, tedious solos. However the effortless style and incredible influence of the great Tony Allen deserves mention in this thread.
