Mike Emrick on the NBC broadcast just said the Sabres are thinking Gaustad could be back for the second round.
This is the first I have heard anything like this, has anyone else heard this??

The announcer doing the Buf-Phi game just said something to the effect of "Paul Gaustad is the only Sabre out now, and they think he may be back for the 2nd round."
This is the first that I've heard of this. Has anyone else heard anything else remotely close to this? I find it hard to believe.

I would just be happy having the Goose back at anytime during the playoffs, but only if he's really able to play.

Connolly Stafford Gaustad would be our fourth line. Wow.

Emrick's generally clueless as the game's going on. My guess is he's full of crapola.

It would be nice but I highly doubt it. Too soon from an injury like that imo. But I also am not a Doctor.

this is what i read
3/27/07 Gaustad is off both crutches but remains in a "walking boot" to protect his injured tendon. He is in good spirits and still holds hope of returning during the playoffs
and also
3/2/07 Paul Gaustad's season might not be over like originally feared. Gaustad is doing very well in recovery and he along with the team believe he could return at some point in the playoffs if his recovery continues at its current pace.

do we even need him?
Of course we need him. Who would you rather have playing on the 4th line? Mair, Paille, or Gaustad? It's Gaustad in a land slide. And as number61 stated, he's a key penalty killer and from what I remember, the powerplay works pretty well with him standing in front. So if our powerplay isn't clicking and we get the Goose back, he could help that as well.
Remember how valuable Grier was in last year's playoffs with his physical presence? That's exactly where Gaustad will be most useful. 5 on 5, banging in the corners, making the opposition look over their shoulder.

Solid serviceable players are needed in the playoffs. Take 8-9 weeks of Hockey and you are guaranteed to have injuries.
Having players who can contribute sitting on the sidelines is important depth to have.
Having a hammer like the Goose goes a long way.

Gaustad was in the press box with Rick and Jim during the game against the Capitals yesterday and he said the same thing. He said that his foot is healing a lot faster than they originally thought it was going to, and they're hoping that he can come back in a later round, granted they make it that far.

He sure the hell is no question about it.
When he's ready to go 100% bring him back.
Who would sit when he does come back?

Didn't he say the other day that the boot is off and he's going to start skating too? Nothing major or anything. He won't be practicing with the team, but just skating on it to see how it feels. Boy it would be awesome to get him back.
