For simplicity and speed, I've used DVD shrink. If it errors out, I'll use ripitforme w/dvd decrypter. There isn't a disc out there that cannot be ripped with these options. Ripitforme in 1 click mode uses Fixvts and enables shrink after your rip is patched. I prefer to have shrink convert to *.iso files for easy of multiple burns after several rips.
DVDfabdecrypter works well but can be a tad tricky for the noob requiring VOBBlanker and Fixvts. There are tons of re-authoring and editing options at www.videohelp.com along with decent hardware reviews for each dvd writer used in system builds.
