Download.com has hundreds of free utilities. Some are just a free trial, some are freeware.

Be really careful with some of them, alot are loaded with spyware. Read the reviews on them first.

Ohh yeah. Spot on Gil.

In fact, after you download the free site advisor from MacAfee (www.siteadvisor.com) google these three subjects...

"screensavers"
"free software"
"freeware"

And watch the red flags that SiteAdvisor tosses all over these searches.

CCleaner (CrapCleaner) is a great little utility that rids your system of all the junk files that clog it up and slow things down and also cleans the registry. Free and no spyware attached.
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Second up is WinPatrol from BillP Studios. It lets you know everything that is running on your PC, what is in the Startup folder, alerts when something tries to install itself or change the registry etc. Lot's of other goodies as well. Also free but for $29.95 you can go Plus and have access to the BillP Studios site that will describe, in-depth, what that weird startup program is. The Plus license works on all your PCs and is forever.

I use both of those at home. CCleaner not so much, but both work well.

If you're short on RAM, a good little program to use is called Cyberlat Ram Cleaner. It will periodically clean the ram when it gets to low on free ram. It can be set to do it automatically or you can do it manually.

I'm pretty sure I got it @download.com
