After roughly a year of negotiating the deal, the NHL and CBC have agreed to a new six-year broadcast agreement that will begin in 2008-09 and conclude in 2013-14 with minimal changes from the existing contract between the two. There are minimal changes expected in the level of coverage from the existing regular-season contract, though the new deal leaves room for expanded Saturday afternoon coverage and more convenient access for Canadian fans on several different mediums.
“The tradition certainly continues,” Richard Stursberg, executive vice president of CBC Television, said. “And this is the first day of a new and very exciting future for us and the NHL.
