i have been reading a bunch of threads on obama v. clinton v. gingrich v. kucinich v. jeb bush v. other folks......... and i must say, i think the point is being missed.

here is the point - the american political structure is currently constructed to DEFER to the executive branch on everything. whether we elect a republican or a democrat is not going to make a difference.

we need to FOCUS, people. tear down gw bush and the neo-cons and all the rest of the "unitary executive idiots"... bring the american presidency back where it belongs - a co-existing 3rd branch; NOT the pre-eminent branch with 2 little sisters.

let's discuss.

I'm in 100% agreement.

I don't like the office of the presidency in the least as it is impossible to find one person who everyone in the nation is behind. Its too polarizing for the nation.

The person I would want for the president would be no good for many in this country...thats not fair.

I couldn't agree more. I would go one step further and dismantle the whole federal government and start over.

Limit the scope of the federal government to national defense and protecting the constitution. The major power going to the states to take care of their citizenry. The Feds would just be an overseer, not some gigantic machine.

There is no such thing as a hereditary king in the united states.

We sorta tried that once. It didn't work with 13 bodies, what makes you think it can work with 50?

In a time of war the presidency needs the powers it now has,

if the members of the other party in congress play poltics

with the war.In peace time the less power ALL branches of

goverment have the better off we are.

So what you're saying is, a power-hungry neoconservative can take the Presidency and just declare wars on anything and everything, and people like you will follow them "because we're at war"?

I guess even when we're out of Iraq, the President can say he has the power to rape the Constitution because of the War on Terror.

Then when we've killed all the terrorists (hypothetically...you and I both know that this is a war that can never be won) the President can still abuse his powers by pointing out the War on Drugs.

Yeah, your view of the Presidency is awesome, Uppy.

Okay... so the states that fail get auctioned off to the neighboring hiest bidder... They then get desolved and we get cool new maps and flags. It's capitalism and financial darwinism at ths state level.

If I were in a gregarious mood, I would make fun of Uppy for liking the "strong man" form of government too much. With the caveat that the "strong man" be someone who backs up the way he thinks . . .

It's only too powerful until a democrat gets elected. Then you'll change your mind. :D

The congress gave GWB the OK to go to war and if I recall

almost all the demos voted yes...the congress made the strong

man Presidency...so next time the Prez asks the congress for

the power to go to war they can say no.In fact why don't they

vote this week to strip the executive branch the war powers

given to him after 9/11

Good point ....that said

I thought Clinton was a strong man type of prez my self.I came

to that judgement on April 16,1993 as I watched Waco burn

down live on CNN with 94 men, woman and children trapped

inside.
