INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Tony Dungy is a deeply religious man who puts his faith first in his life, even above family and football. So his support of a proposed gay-marriage ban likely surprised few.

Dungy said his comments should not be considered gay bashing.

"We're not trying to downgrade anyone else. But we're trying to promote the family -- family values the Lord's way," Dungy said.

Smith said he was unaware Dungy, who received the award because of his pro-family ethic, not for his views on public policy, would address the issue.

The resolution's sponsor, Sen. Brandt Hershman, R-Monticello, said Dungy's endorsement made the proposal more credible.

"I certainly appreciate him being able to step forward and speak out strongly in his beliefs," Hershman said. "I don't think that anybody should criticize him for exercising his First Amendment right to speak as a private citizen in support of some deeply held beliefs."

this has to do with politics because......

Oh and if supporting a gay marriage ban gets a coach a superbowl ring then I want Dick Jauron to bring in Fred Phelps to be the team's chaplain.

What are the chances that his kid was a closet gay and he knew his father would have been so disgusted and disappointed in him that he killed himself?

I'm sure Paul Taligliabue is very happy as well considering his son is openly gay.....

**** Tony Dungy.

I gave the last half of my ham, cheese and tomato panini to a bag lady last night when I was walking home from the restaurant...so it looks like I'm even.

Has anyone else forgotten about Alan Keyes' daughter?

When she came out of the closet,Keyes basically disowned her. So Gibby...sorry to say,but WXP may have a point-as base as it may seem to you. However,we're never going to fully know why Dungy's son decided to kill himself unless they decide to make it public.

I respect Dungy for his work on the field, but not on this issue. Let me pose this question: Suppose it was not gay people wanting to get hitched....but black people who wanted to marry whoever they wanted. Would Dungy be all gung-ho about denying them the right to choose who they wanted to walk down the aisle with?

this has to do with politics because......

It has as much or as little to do with politics - and is as relevant to this board - as any thread about Charlie Sheen, Tim Robbins, or any other Hollywood celeb speaking out their beliefs does.

Kind of pathetic that you'd have to actually explain that to it.
