Who is better?
How about Vanek vs Nash?
I came across this, and thought it would be a good question!!
Q I just made a trade deadline deal and I wanted your take on it. It's a keeper league and players under 20 games are considered keepers but don't count against your limit. We are allowed to keep 15 players per team. My team received these players: Jeff Carter, Nathan Horton, Jack Johnson, Benoit Pouliot, Sheldon Souray and Thomas Vanek. I traded away: Rick Nash and Tomas Vokoun. Also do you see Vanek being just as good as Nash?
- Naser S.
FI: First off, you signed off on a great deal, Naser. Actually, an outstanding one, almost robbery. You gave up quality but, in turn, received enormous value for the future. Barring major injury, Carter, Horton, Johnson and Pouliot will all develop into solid point-getters in the NHL--they can't miss. As for Vanek (pictured above), he's probably the prized catch in all of this. We have a huge opinion of Vanek's all-around toolbox. Not only is he turning into quite the defensive forward, he has what it takes to become a legit 50-goal-scorer. He's got a great shot, can set up plays and is the type of player that makes those around him more productive, not the other way around. He doesn't need to play with high-level players in order to produce. And he's only 23, roughly just six months older than Nash. Where we like Vanek over Nash in fantasy circles is his ability to make plays and collect assists, while the latter is primarily a shooter and may never rack up lots of helpers. Even if Vanek doesn't outperform Nash in the long-term, the others will make sure you come out ahead.
