This is such bullshit, i wonder how Garrioch the Hutt feels about Golisano's letter now. All of a sudden its a bigger deal cuz it happened to a leaf. Utter bullshit.

its not a bigger deal, this guy just works for the star. He commented on the Drury situation too live on TSN.

the whole situation stinks...

i love big hits. more than most.

and it is extremely hard to decipher a dirty hit from that of the clean natured.

but damn, we need to do something. I mean, a brutal hit is a brutal hit and some punishment should be handed down.

my idea would be to insert a rule that stipulates if a hit is deemed "dirty" or late or illegal, it should carry an automatic 5 Game suspension. There after, depending on how far and above the hit is in comparison to a standard dirty hit, 5 Game increments are tacked on to the initial 5 Game Suspension.

Fighting is a different beast all together. Players are NOT forced into a fight, they are given a chance to decline, 99.9% of the time if they choose not to tussle... You can't decide to not drop your gloves when it comes to a late or dirty hit. It's just not the same. Fighting should stay as long as we still have players in this league that specialize in doing just that. Fighting is a game-changing occurrence. It can totally flip the momentum of a team and completely change the outcome of a game.

You can't get rid of something like that... Especially when all the opposition has to do to avoid it is NOT drop the gloves.

5 GAME MANDATORY SUSPENSIONS FOR LATE (THE PUCK HAS LEFT THE PLAYERS POSSESSION PRIOR TO THE HIT) AND/OR SUSPECTED DITRY HITS.

or a new high, depending. Mmmmmm heh heh ehehehehe hehehehehehe

I'm all in favor of banning head shots. It's not that hard to avoid 'em. You see guys pull up all the time. It's also not too hard to determine intent on body language and action. You could tell Neil with the rising elbow and the entire Jansson hit that intent was there. Look at the diff between those two shitty shots and Campbell's lay-out of Umberger.

Bduff, nice topic title.

The NHL still has its favoritism but it is to a lesser degree. Let's face it, the league will never get the balance of clubs throughout like the NFL but its damn entertaining. Let 'em play or mandate full face cages like in college and let them really carve each other up.
Although I don't feel Drury's helmet was "mis-fastened", there are far too many players every night that could stick their fist between their chin straps and chin, not real bright.
